I really wish I could have been out this weekend camping. I know I probably wouldn't be able to get the worst site at any cg now. With that said I started to think about starting to dry camp. Any suggestions on where to do that in our area. I've been looking at pictures of others' camping trips all morning on RV.net instead of starting the mountain load of work I need to get done. Wishing I could visit some of the places in the pictures. Woe is me on a three day weekend :(.

We don't like to camp on holiday weekends.  It seems they always bring out the crazies.

I have not found any places to dry camp around here.  I have heard of some places in the Ocala Nat'l Forest but I have also heard that it is not safe to dry camp/boondock there.  Anybody else hear that?

Greg

No silly no one will still my beers.  I have heard of several murders as well as drug runners and the like hiding out in the forest.  I may just be paronoid but that is what I have heard and read about the forest.

Hmm in that case I wouldn't be camping there without bringing a gun.  It's amazing how a few creeps can turn a forest into a bandit hideaway. :X

Someone in the past had mentioned that there are no dry camping areas around here. I thought a lot of rowdies would be out this weekend. The weekend after the 4th of July a group was camped by us and they were noisy all night. I really love the peace and quiet of camping and hate when it is tainted.

I was thinking of going to Manatee State Park up the street, but decided to go to Disney instead. I can get in for free cause we have friends from Colorado that work there!!!!! So we are going to Drive to Orlando and Stay in a 4 star Hotel and live it up. Forget the tent for a night!!!!!!

I need a night to rest up. I have had some sad news just now our dog just died. My daughter just had to put her to sleep. She had lymphoma for about a month that was diagnosed 3 weeks ago and it spread fast to her lungs. She woke up vomiting, and couldnt keep water down or food. She wasnt breathing right so my daughter took her to the vet and she called me and we decided to put her down. I am so sad but glad that she isnt suffering anymore.

Sorry to hear about your dog. I rode up US1 into Folkston, GA. I needed to see something different and I hadn't been beyond Callahan on US1. I found quite a few campgrounds and a nature reserve on my way.

Carla,,we know how you feel, We had two Greyhounds and had to put them both down within a couple of months of each other. It's very difficult thing to do but better then seeing them suffer in pain. It's like looseing a family member. Our Greys were 14 & 15 years old. That's old for Grey's but they are still missed to this day. For years they were our "children".JL was born the same year,7 months later.Tee says that's why God Blessed us with JL .He knew we would miss our two children deeply.

Greg, you are correct as to a homicide in the Ocala National Forest.  A camper was killed at the Lake Delancy campground about 3 years ago.  The perpetrator was apprehended and is now incarcerated.  While I like peace and quiet, I don't care for it to be that quiet.
