Hey all.

Last month was nice that several of our members got together at Fort Clinch.

I was thinking ahead maybe 8-12 months out.  Could someone come up with a place that everyone could attend so we could really get together?  It seems that we all are going everyplace but not together. .  I don't mean we should all camp together all the time but a yearly rally type thing would be great.  A good cookout and fellowship:beerwould be in order.

Greg, could we come up with an availability calender and a destination area that each one could vote on for a yearly rally?  The destination would have to be somewhere near Jacksonville (60-100 miles)to include our southern and now northern friends.  The facility would have to be large enough for our entire crew.

Any of you with ideas lets hear them.

Anyway, just a thought..;up

Richard

I have been looking for such a place.  I had been thinking that Flamingo lake would be perfect exept that they do not allow tents.

Kelly and Danny metioned That Gold Head SP might be a good place.  I have spoken to them obout this as a possible location a couple months ago and the rangers were very open to the idea.  If we schedual far enough in advance we could take over one or two entire loops.

Gold Head is a good spot.  We have camped at Sand Hill site 16 many times.  The park is never really busy so Gold Head would be great for us(right down the road).  Sand Hill Offers some large open sites that are well spaced apart.  Right next door is Turkey Oak with smaller sites for those that like to tent in the hammock cover of oaks.

While we haven't camped at Flamingo, we had some friends that did.  We visited them there and thought the campground to be very secure.  Our friends enjoyed themselves around the campfire with quite a number of retired persons and the accompanying music on a Friday night.:group.

My wife, Linda and I are new members to this group and have a really hard time scheduling our campouts.  We have a Thanksgiving weekend and Christmas reservations set at different spots.  We are hoping that one weekend in the future we can connect with some of you at your outings.  Having different weekend days off makes it difficult.  For now we will be doing a lot of internet surfing and reading of the outings.  We've lived in Jacksonville a while but neverr camped at Hannah.  I didn't want have to drive through town but 9A will make that easier now.  I think it will be our next local place after Christmas at Little Talbot Island.

I stopped in at Gold Head again today and talked to the rangers and have come up with a way that we can take over the entire Sand Hill loop as well as the Turkey Oak Loop if needed, This would give us 36 camping spots all together.  If we needed more room we can expand into the Lakeview area. The Turkey Oak loop is used primarily for tents however the ranger told me that we could park pop-ups and small campers there as well.   This is a very nice park about an hour south of Jacksonville on State route 21.

It will never be possible to pick a time and place for everyone to attend.  The best we can hope for is to hope that a vast majority will try to make it.  Unless anyone has a strong opinion as to why we should not use Gold Head as the location of our yearly gathering I will set this up for the first weekend of March.  I choice this date due to the cooler weather and because it is possible for me to reserve entire sections of the park for our use.  We will also have the use of a Pavilion to host meals and other activities.

With more time and planning we should be able to fill all 74 sites in the park for the 2009 gathering.

If we know for sure that this weekend is set we can schedule planned days off for that saturday and get their friday a bit later than normal.  We did our first tent camping at Gold Head a few years ago.

Please don't  anyone make reservations.  We are not going to use the normal reservation policy.  I will lock up the loop in the morning and then let everyone know what we are doing for reservations.
