Hello all! I know I have been MIA for some time now. Please forgive me! Life has been so busy and has changed so much for our family with this move to Keystone Heights. Last time we camped was back in November! I'm ready to start planning another camping trip for our family. Same TT, same TV, same silly boys including the husband, but a new member has joined our family. Now this boy is a 3yr. old red and rust doberman, and 75lbs. of pure lovin! Yes, I'm smitten...
Now I wouldn't dream of leaving him out of our family adventures, but am unsure of how one goes about a camping trip with a large dog in tow.
My questions...
What extra's do I pack for a dog?
What are the best places to camp with a dog?
Where do I deposit his huge poo's?
Anything other wisdom you have that you may feel like imparting would be greatly appriciated here.

| Congrats on the dog. I have never camped with one but I am sure someone will be along shortly to answer your questions.

I have a friend that camps with a dobby and he does great. When we take our basset hound, we bring a long a crate to keep him in at night (just because I don't want him to run loose in the camper).
Just like any other dogs, in state parks they must be on a leash. You can get you one of those retractable leashes that also has them poo bags mounted on it. That way when he does his business, you are prepared. Bring some of his favorite toys, food and water dish, and some treats.
Oh yea, make sure you don't forget to post his pictures in the doghouse section.Last edited on Tue Mar 9th, 2010 11:46 pm by zigzag3337

| We always bring our dogs but they are smaller than yours (unless we add them all up, LOL.) We like to bring them sweaters because it tends to get cold. We don't need to bring many treats because our friends feed them all the time. I think you should bring a bike and long leash because our dogs love to go for a run while I ride the bike. Happy camping!

| Thank you Mandy, Dually, Richard, Kim and Wendy. He really is an awesome dog! So really the basic's of camping with a dog are common sense. I tried the bike thing with him already. Not really very confident that he won't turn where I don't want him to though. I saw a harness and cart for sale, but at $200 I'm not in a position yet to purchase. It would be a blast for the dog and the boy's to say the least. Thanks again ya'll. See you out there...
