What are some of your best, (or even better, worst!) jerry-riggings?

This last weekend we went camping at KOA in kingsland and decided to try cooking a pizza  ... on the grille!

The fire ring didnt come with a grille,  and I didn't have a grille either, sooo... I have a grille I took from an old oven and covered it with tinfoil, then used a spare tent-pole to prop it on the ring, and walah!  outdoor pizza dinner! :D

Also I love the doggie pens we have seen for sale, but the 'standard' 2 foot high one just isnt tall enough, nor is it big enough IMHO,  and to buy a taller one double-size would be mondo expensive, so I made my own:  (many of you saw this at the camping rally)  If you look real hard you can see Rusty lying there, with Bambi lying along the leftmost side of it.

And just so as not to start another thread, one more pic of our site with Amanda lounging by the pizza!

(Lastly, and again in the interest of not starting another thread, we'll be at Laura Walker fri through sun, 06/04 thru 06/06)

So how was the pizza. did the grill work? I have those doggie pens, but Asia just cries if she is not under my feet all the time so I know just clip a leader to the bottom of my awning post so she can just wander arround and go inside if she wants.

The pizza actually came out just fine!  ... Perhaps a little undercooked, but not bad! I think the fire waned a little too swiftly and I had it on for probably about an hour, but it was obviously just not gonna cook any further by that time!

Hmm, I think it was $56 for just me and amanda for 2 nights.  they have a number of site-types available,  (tent, trailer,water/elec,  water+elec+sewer)  so the prices range depending on what you wanted to do.

I will say that my site was /cramped/  .. barely room to fit the trailer and car and dogpen,  not enough room to add anything else!

it's arranged in a classic KOA style,  more designed for sleepovers for people 'travelling through' and just needing a place to spend the night, although one or two rows of the place are designated for permanent campers,  (one row is designated for cold-storage,  and by just looking up and down these rows you can clearly see that's how they are)

Also, like the KOA down by St. Augustine, it's basically a 'tiny camping place in the middle of the city' ... meaning, you look west and you can see the condo's,  look east and you see the highway. It's NOT a place to go for that 'outdoorsy wilderness experience'

I dont know what kind of attractions are around the area (we only went there to meet a friend and just do something for the weekend really :)

Ron right behind that KOA is another "Mom and Pop" type campground called Country Oaks http://www.countryoaksrv.com/

We have stayed at both places and they both have their ups and downs. The KOA has a pool for the kids and then Country Oaks has a great little fishing pond that is very well stocked.

Just make sure you click the public button, if not then only you can see it. Done this the first few times I added stuff to the calendar.
