Ok, Dawn & I came up with some tips for the trip

1)Do Not take I-95 thru Miami....BIG Mistake !!!!  Don't ask how I know !!!! I NOW take 95-S to Ft. Pierce and then take the Florida Turnpike all the way down to Florida City. Pay the tolls its well worth it.

2)As your leaving Florida City heading to Key Largo you will see a sign that says Card Sound Road on your left....take it and you will cut at least 30 min.(depending on traffic) off your trip to Key Largo. There is a toll bridge that will cost you about a $1.00 but its a lot faster than staying on US-1 to Key Largo.

3)(from Dawn) Don't load the camper and ice chest down with food and meats. There is a very nice Winn Dixie in Key Largo that you can get your food items at. Plus by the time you get there you will have remembered what you forgot at home.(she's good at that)

4)(from Dawn) You can't take enough towels, there is no way you can go thru a day in the Keys without getting wet. Unless you plan on washing clothes everyday take extra towels.

If we think of any more I will post them, or if anyone has a question feel free to ask.

That is great advice and I concur, Never take I95 through Miami or anywhere close to Miami. Get on the turnpike ASAP and pay the toll.

Ditto on the Turnpike.  It's worth the extra $$!!  We also spend the night in Florida City when traveling down to the keys.  FDOT is doing some major road expansions.  The lanes and shoulders are even tighter than they were before.  And watch out for all those mommy & daddy workers on the road.
