I am still alive and well but it was a close call. We (wife and I) were camped at Wekiwa Springs State Park with some club members and we heard some thunder rumbling in the distance. We decided to secure our campsite for bad weather when lightning struck a pine tree 10’ from my awning and arced onto the awning which I was touching at the time. It knocked me off of my feet and I landed about 6 ‘ away. Everyone standing in the area felt the charge in their legs also. I had a tremor for a few minutes but Rescue responded and checked my vital signs and said everything looked OK. Immediately after the strike my feet were very hot but did not show any signs of burns. It was a harrowing experience. Unfortunately the camper has significant electrical damage but it is insured. I can only thank my God that I survived. I am very thankful for those around me who responded quickly and got me checked out. A special thanks to GATORZ1998 for her help after the incident. It was nice meeting her and the family.

Fla-gypsy,

Yes, thank God you are okay. I can only imagine this Sunday's Praise and Worship service for you. Thanks for the testimony.

Like a woman mother nature can be cruel and beautiful.  GOD is awesome!  I'm so glad to hear that you are a.o.k. from a strike like that.  When we meet I will have to tell you about Mark's close call with lightning.

I am glad to hear that you are ok. Campers can be repaired or replaced. It is good to have friends nearby with and emergency comes up.

Glad to hear you are OK.  I bet your perspective on all sorts of things is a bit different after that scare.

Glad you are ok.  We had some real weather at Salt Springs also.

OMG........I am so paranoid about this happening and so afraid of the lightning down in Florida my husband always laughed at me (I always sit in the closest with tornado warnings and in middle of house during storms cause I had a bad experience there.  Wait till I show him this.....now I'm really gonna be afraid!!

I'm so glad to hear you are ok....I think I would be put out of camping in any storms at all after that!!

Well Gypsy---You faired much better than that pine tree that was hit!  We were down at Wekiva this weekend & I'm sorry to report, the pine tree was DOA!!  Guess you are feeling even luckier now!  At the time it was scary for us, but after all is said and done--it really could have been much worse.  A simple reminder to be thankful for our blessings!!

You are correct. I think next time I will try a different campsite though.
