| Did our first geocaching this past weekend at Manatee Springs SP. Kids loved it. We called it a treasure hunt.

We do geocaching all the time.....(if you were worried about ticks at manatee springs then you really need to be careful doing the geocaching casue they are all over doing those hunts) One time while we were camping at Flagler Beach...and went on a cache hunt near a state park there) we got back I looked down and it looked like my socks were moving ....hundreds of tiny tiny baby ticks and chiggers all over...definitly spray everything with a good deet spray when geocaching ....we had a great time anyway washed them all off (other then the chigger bites and washed our clothes right there at the camp laundry...threw the socks away and hosed the sneakers off and sprayed them with spray and we were good to go!

| Just started geocaching myself recently. I found something that works great for ticks and chiggers. You buy it at an Army surplus store, it's called "Chig-away" used it when I was in the Army never had any problems.

| Geocaching is like treasure hunting. You get coordinates where something is hidden and use your GPS to find them. Some caches are the kind that you add to, you keep a log about what you find, where you found it etc. You can even start your own cache, just pick a location, get the GPS coordinate, give a hint or two of what people should look for then have fun. We have fun especially with the grandkids trying to find the caches.

I got a Garmin Hand held GPS unit for Christmas. We camped in Eustis in our Pop Up and Geocached in the area fo the first time. While in The St Augustine area camping, in out new travel trailer we geocached there too. This past weekend, we rented a beach house at Dekle Beach with my wife's family and Geocached there. Thursday we are leaving for the D.C. area and I have downloaded all the coordinates for that area.
I think I am approaching 100 finds.
The kids love it and it is a unique way to log our travels as well as learn about the local areas.
It works hand in hand with family oriented activities that camping is all about.
Anyone looking into a hand held GPS unit shoud check sites like E Bay.
Mine is top of the line and I bought the map chip too. Now I can never get lost, but I may have put my wife (I called her the NAGivator) out of business.
