We know that many are having to watch every penny these days. A long family vacation is almost impossible for most. Heck, we sent our stimulus check to Tampa and USF to pay for some summer classes. Donna is out of school and I am out of work for the summer. We plan and budget to take a vacation every year untill Donna's retirement becomes effective. We hate trying to find ways to entertain ourself at home.
Donna and I are packing for our departure Saturday. We plan to make SC/NC border on Saturday. We then head for Staunton Va 2 days, then onto Intercourse Pennsylvania (that is really the name of the town) http://www.800padutch.com/beacon.html. We will be in Pa / Lancaster Area for 4 nights. Next stop Newburgh KOA, New York, just north of New York City. We plan 3 nights there and a tour of NY City from the campground. Then onto Ticonderoga NY about 3 days then over the ferry to Vermont and onto Franconnia NH for 4 days (Mt Washington and the White Mountains). We plan to be in Bar Harbor Maine 7/3-7/8 (a lobster roll or two). Now, If we have any money left in the bank, we will try to make it back to north Georgia and spend time with friends coming home around 7/25-26. About 3800 miles total the way we are going. At 10 miles to the gallon, $1,923.50 in fuel. About $1,700 in campground fees.
Southwest doesn't offer Air travel close to where we will be going. Philly is a long way from Lancaster and Manchester is a long way from NYC or Franconnia,NH and Bar Harbor ME. Delta wants almost $4,000 for a real multi city vacation. Plus Hotels at $75 each night and rental car expenses.. So for those of you thinking camping, is expensive, it is still the way to travel multi cities especially with 2 or more persons.
I only hope we make it with no mechanical problems. We did 3,200 miles in 2006 without a problem.
We will post as often as possible to keep those interested informed.
Joe, I know you could care less because we will not be fishing. Greg, I don't expect to see any motorcycle or car shows while gone so you might be in the boat with Joe. The most either of you will get is a picture and/or update and a toast.

WOW, sounds like a fabulous trip. One day Steven and I will make that kind of a trip. We never can get enough time off at one time.
One thing I always wanted to do is kayak in one of the beautiful lakes in the Acadia National Forest in Maine. They are soooooo beautiful.
Have a safe and relaxing trip.

I hope that the travel gods will look favorably on you while on your trip. We took a similar trip up to Maine back in 2003. It was one of our favorites trips to date. Have a great time and post lots of pictures.

I hope you and Donna have a safe, fun trip.
One of my brothers lived in PA, my parents brought back a magnet of a four way street sign pointing to four small towns and I can only remember three...Intercourse, Bird in Hand and Paradise. They got a big kick out the four names, wish I could remember the fourth.
Anyway, enjoy and know that Joe will be camping and fishing every chance he gets.
