This morning we got an early start thinking we would beat the rain.  It had rained heavy during the night and the rivers were really up this morning.  We headed to Mount Washington Auto Road.  It cost $27.00, $20.00 for the truck and me and Donna was another $7.00.  We were given a set of driving safety rules and a CD that explained the road history, rules to follow and pointed out some sites.  (All of the roads in New York, Vermont and New Hampshire that we have traveled were really rough.  They must have a shortfall in tax money because we only saw new construction in all these states.)  This private funded road was in terrible shape.  My old truck felt like we were on a washboard.  Anyway, we headed up trying to keep the recommended speed of 15-20 mph but the road was too rough.  As traffic approached from behind, I would find a pullover to let them by.  At about 5,000 feet, the road turns to gravel and our truck's rear wheels would jump losing traction so I engaged 4 wheel drive which made the remainder of the drive uneventful.  The temperature at the base was 66 degrees and the temperature up top was 50 with about a 30 knot wind.  made it feel like the mid 40's.

We left the auto road area and headed to the Mount Washington Cog Train.  The weather had deteriorated so bad on our arrival,we decided not to spend the $108.00 fare to the top.  We just took some pictures.

That road to the top is a killer... We did it on the Motorcycle two years ago on one of our camping trips.

I was too afraid to drive the Mt road. So I made Steven take the Cog RR. I was scared on that too. LOL

Great pictures. Brings back good memories.

New England had record setting cold and snow this winter, plus Mt. Washington has the WORST weather in the world. The snows have barely left and New England states and towns -- out of road money from plowing all the snow -- are trying to figure out how to fix all the frost heaves and potholes caused by this past tough winter. My brother in northern Vermont says the roads have never been so bad.

Thanks for the pictures and the memories and boy am I glad I live in Florida now!

While on Cannon Mountain, the Tram Operator said they had 8" of snow up there just last month on Memorial Day.

I forgot to include this picture of snow today.

We walked down to the SACO river after supper and If we get any more rain, we will be flooded.  The river was 2 1/2' higher today than 2 days ago.  Evidence on the bank shows it had receded somewhat but It is scary.

Yep, worlds worst weather. I like going to their site in the fall and winter to check out conditions. I'm a weather geek. Sure would love to visit there. Awesome posts bailiff!!
