We travelled the Blue Ridge Parkway in 2006 from south of Waynesville up through Sky Line Drive. While making a short straight ahead turn in the parking lot at Mount Mitchell, the trailer just touched the back of the truck's cab. A small scratch was the only damage but a reminder. I have preached to everyone on various sites about our near miss 2 years ago. . .
Well I wasn't going to say anything but I guess I should come clean. Friday, while backing into a tight camp site close to a tree near Gettysburg, I "Dummied Up". The driver's side back glass exploded when part of the trailer came for a visit. Yes thats right I did not use the slider hitch I had for such instances.
Friday afternoon, I got on the internet and typed in Carlise PA auto glass. Up popped Diamond Glass. I then checked Staunton Va and Diamond Glass was listed there. I called and spoke to a young lady who took some information then made a conference call to State Farm and arrangd for the replacement. From Friday until today, my truck wore the garbage bag duct tape bandage to keep the rain out. My truck looked just like25 percent of vehicles in jacksonville with windows broken and a garbage bag bandage tapped to it.
A nice fellow came today and in about 10 minutes had replaced the glass and was on his way. The cost on paper was $358.00 but State Farm covered it on Florida's glass hazard coverage.
This young felow gave us the name of a restruant called Mrs. Rowe's. We headed up there after our laundry was done. (3rd time this trip in the Laundry) We had a wonderful southern country lunch. http://www.mrsrowes.com/

Oh man......Richard. That is why we traded in our SWB for a LWB. We had a slider that was such a pain.
I'm sorry that had to happen. But nice you confessed now. LOL I'm sure the guys will give you some ribbing. Steven's brother's father-in-law did the same thing, just tapped the window and BANG!!
Hope the reminder of your trip home is uneventful.

Donna said the same thing.
No Greg, that makes me a dummy. I have pulled that trailer for over 18,000 miles without a mishap. I also have preached the rule to use the slider. Yes, I win the "dummy Award".
Lesa it takes a 40 acre field to turn this truck anyway. Can't imagine it longer. When time comes, I plan to get an F350 dual wheel short bed. Might invest in a self adjusting slider too.
The wind is back in my sail again.

MAN! I have been there and done that. Up at Jekyl Island, Chevy 2500 sb and Keystone 5th just had to kiss and I had a slider also. Don't have to worry about that any more with new set up. Truck is much longer but better turning radius and new air hitch can be mounted far enough back on the MDT there is no chance of kissing now.

Richard,
If you travel these things seem to find a way of happening. If you stay at home these things don't happen.
We had an A/C construction truck on I-40 near Maggie Vally, drop all his construction materials on the higway. Before we know it, we and many others are swirving, trying to miss all the debree he dropped in the middle of the interstate (going 65 mph).
One piece of the debree hit our drivers side, (scratched paint), on his the tail pipe, (big dent in pipe), and caught the generator exhaust pipe. (breaking the support and phlange that holds the generator exhaust pipe).
Fortunatley for me I could fix everything myself and had no further problems.(as of this post).
KEEP GOIING AND KEEP FIXING
The alternatives are not the ones I want to think about.

Richard you are going to have to show me what a slider hitch is the next time we see you. I'm glad to hear that was the only damage. I thought the glass hazard coverage was for the front window only, glad it's not.

When I popped my back window my deductable was higher than the cost of the glass so I had to eat the price of the replacement.

| Mandy, I also thought it only covered the windshield. However the glass guy is gone, I have a new rear window and did not pay a deductible.
