What do y'all take with you to do when you camp?
I take my knitting, my cross stitching, a couple of good escape novels, and my Rock Fairy Kit.
What's a Rock Fairy Kit? Well, when we were camping a couple of years ago up in General Coffee SP, I met two ladies from Daytona who had camped together for years with hubbies in tow. When the men went off fishing, I noticed them busily painting something small out there on the picnic table.....they were little stones, actually, about 1"-2" across. The ladies explained that they usually chose small stones from the campsite they were on, then painted little flowers, hearts, smiley faces, whatever on them and left one or two of them on the campsite when they left, to be discovered (or not) by the next campers. NEAT IDEA!
So, I bought some acryllic paints in Wallyworld and a bag of their small smooth rocks (because Florida limestone is hard to paint on), some brushes, and a plastic box to keep it all in. I usually spend one afternoon painting simple, cute ol' rocks (I am NOT a good artist), and then I leave one over by the faucet and maybe one on the picnic table seat..... When we left full-timing and moved into this retirement community, I started leaving Rock Fairy creations in people's yards, even if I didn't know them. At night. Nobody knew it was me. It was such FUN! The rocks became good luck charms at bingo games. Word spread they were magic! And then I got discovered......and I've sort of retired here in the community......I like the secret part..........
Anyway, you're all invited to paint Rock Fairy Rocks with me when we get together.
Don usually carves walking sticks, but I'll let him tell you about that......

| We do some bird watching but snorkeling has become one of our main pastimes when summer camping. I have fashioned a couple of walking sticks but not while camping. I plan on doing some more because they turned out well.

We enjoy walking or riding our bikes around the cg. It is good exercise for me and we get to see some neet things.
You guys please explain the walking stick thing to me. That sounds kinda cool. What steps do you take in making one?

| Fishing, running around chasing a toddler, bike riding although haven't done that since being preggers, getting up early and running, reading, etc. Being out of the house!

We don't have a "hobby". We did when the kids were home but not now. Donna will read some while I doodle on the computer. I like to sit and watch others in the campground. If we go somewhere, I will find a cool spot to watch other people.
We take a walk after supper in the summer when it is cool. We do hikes during the winter. We ride the bikes when it's flat and cool. These activities are exercise not hobbies. Can you tell, I hate heat.
The only hobby Donna and I share is the hobby of eating good groceries.

I made mine out of some sturdy cedar limbs, I had a look at Don's which were very nice and had some very nice carving. I am not that talented. I believe his were Birch. I would be glad to show them to you next time we cross paths.

Flattire has become a full time hobby for me, which means I'm on the NEFLCC site checking his posts constantly.
We like to ride bike, fish, boating.
I like to read, crochet, and work puzzles (jigsaw, crosswords, etc.)
Joe likes to mow the lawn (NOT), he likes to fish, relax by the campfire with a beer and good company and loves being out on the water.
I think I'm going take up the Rock Fairy Rocks hobby, sounds like fun!

we don't have a hobby yet. We have our camper only games. So far we just do what the camp site has to offer.
However, we are starting to get into Geocaching. Last trip I forgot to bring the stuff. But I want to take it with me on trips so we can do treasure hunts

| We don't have any camping hobbies other than camping itself and of course this site. Like most have posted we ride our bikes take walks, read and generally enjoy what ever the campground has to offer. I would like to try Geocaching I looks like it would fit right in with our camping trips.

We have done a little geocaching and it is really neat. You find all kinds of places you never even knew about.....

I'll have to see what's cached around Silver Springs before we go.

Well Steve or Cindy.. The hardest part is to find the "stick".. I haven't found anything useable here in FL yet. (help) but if you can find some good hickory or ash that works best.. anything works if it is straight and solid.. use your imagination as to what you want to carve.. You can buy books on this. Google it..
I did wolf and indian heads for my grandkids that they sleep with.. It's a lot of fun if you have idle time, it's so relaxing.. Made a snake back scratcher one afternoon that I like and really needed!
All you need is a very sharp knief and a little imagination..
Regards,
Don
