This time it is not my fault!

Rick was getting ready to go to Tampa and asked why my shoes were in the driveway between his car and the truck.  I haven't had them I said.  Further investigatiopn revealed the trailer door had been pried open and thy had broken out the rear window of my truck.  Other than damage to the trailer door, (every cabinet and drawer was opened) we couldn't determine if anything was missing from there.  The truck had been ransacked and a 22 cal pistol was stolen along with every gas card we had.  They also took my prized LED flashlights and a Gettysburg gold coin.

During the same time, they stole my neighbor's truck (refrigeration repair) with all his work tools and parts.

All this activity occured last night after we went to sleep and before the neighbor's son got home from work at 5am.

The policer officer stated there had been 21 burglaries reported within the last 3 days in our sub sector which is about 2 1/2 square miles.  When I worked the street, it was a busy day for 3 burglaries in the entire Zone of about 300 square miles.

I hate to hear that bailiff and it really makes you angry doesn't it? You work and pay for the stuff that brings you pleasure and some no count jerk tries to take your stuff. It makes me mad just thinking about it. I hope it doesn't end up costing a bunch to get it all straightened out.

I feel your pain.

February 5th this year I came home and my house in Jacksonville was broken into, They stole everything that was at any value except for the jewelry and our 50" flat screen. The police officer told us that there was a lot of homes broken into within the past few weeks, but none of the homeowners where notified (that way everyone coud watch out for each other). We lived in this house for over 17 years with no problems, but we still bought a new house to "Hopefully" get away from the crime.

We now live in Callahan.

Dog gone.....that really makes me mad.   I feel so bad for you and Donna.

I'm so sorry.  I have great great aunt Lizzy and people say she was a witch.  So when we get really angry at someone we say "Lizzy Jinx".  So Lizzy Jinx on the people who violated your camper.  Aunt Lizzy will take care of them. We don't place the Lizzy on anyone lightly.

I bet the insurance company are going to wonder what is going on with your back window.

Richard,   If we can do anything to help please let us know.

Wow Richard sorry to hear about the problems. I will agree with Richard (zigzag3337) we feel a bit safer living here in Callahan but we still take every precaution.

I don't want to hijack this thread but did you know that Nassau county residences can call the sheriff's office when they are going to be out of town and the sheriff will have a deputy or PSA come to your house everyday to check on it for you. Pretty cool.

Greg,

JSO also offers that (Property Check) which I did back in the 70's and 80's.  We had to note it on our daily log at least once a shift.  But we were here.  Back then, the watch Lieutenant would sometimes bait the officers to make sure they were doing what they were supposed to do so you had better make the check.

I thought I heard the Tush-Hogs last night but I just figured it was someone on the road just broken down.

Thanks Campbuds (and everyone else too). Other than a couple of the sentimental guns that were stolen, My homeowners paid for everything. Even new carpet because of the glass from the window.

I hope everything works out for you too.

Now that I look back at it, I am better off...I mean my wife was wanting a new home for the past several years and I would probably be still living there if we weren't broken in to. I always think that things happens for a reason.

March 28 they gained access to my pick up truck parked in the drive way; used the garage door opener (that everyone keeps in their vehicle) and opened the garage door; opened the door from the garage into my house. They took my wife's purse and her keys off the kitchen counter and drove away in my truck. This was all done sometime between 9pm and 11pm on a Friday night. Here's the kicker --- WHILE WE WERE IN BED SLEEPING!!!! It is such a violating feeling.

Turns out my truck was being used as a "crack-rental" around town. No kidding. It was found about 10 days later. Approximately $4500 worth of damage. JSO was able to lift a fingerprint in my garage. They matched it and picked him up. (He is currently in jail. Still awaiting trail).

Looking back, the good Lord was definitely watching over us. We have an 80 lb. golden retriever mix that sleeps in our room at night. She usually hears EVERYTHING; not on this night. Not a whine, whimper, growl or bark.

Just remember that the only thing irreplacable is a life...everything else is just "stuff".

Happilymaad,

Sounds like God was looking out for you. No telling what would have happened if you did wake up. Someone could of been hurt.

Like you said, it's only stuff. But dang it.....it's my stuff.  I'll make sure our door to the garage is locked every night now.

All our cars have alarms. Hopefully the bad guy hasn't figured out a way around that, but no telling.

Don't get me wrong, CampBuds, I totally agree with you...it is my stuff, or your stuff. I still don't know how I'm going to replace my kids Easter Baskets that we picked up the day the truck was stolen. (We left them in the back seat).

Just make sure to set the alarm(s), otherwise, they'll get around it every time.

Looks like the crime is getting worse with the times..... two weeks ago they broke out our car window to get everything inside.... Lucky our garage door opener hasn't worked in several months.  1st time it's been a good thing not to change the batteries.  They hit our neighbors cars too.

Bailiff,

I feel so bad for you and Donna after such a wonderful trip. I'm making a change with where we keep our garage door openers. Definately locking the door between the house and the garage. Also, never leaving anything in the car or truck worth anything, even for a minute.

Something to think about with garage doors. Most of the newer styles have a "Lock Out" feature on them. This is a switch that keeps the garage door from opening from the inside or from the remote when activated. My old house had a Genie with the switch on the inside remote. My new house doesn't have this feature but both of the garage doors are on their seperate light switches. So when we aren't using them, we just turn them off. This will prevent someone from using the garage door openers. Another precaution, if we go out of town for the weekend we just take the openers out of the other vehicles altogether.

It's ashame that we live in a society that we have to do this, but if we don't go above and beyond our normal means of security, we are only inviting the crooks to help themselves the stuff the we work hard for.

Richard
