I am currently camping at Henderson SP in Destin.  Deffiently the nicest campground on the emerald coast.  Sorry all ya'll St Andrews lovers, Henderson is much nicer.  The only thing Andrews has on henderson is a few more things you have access to (if you are a boater).

However, I'm at work right now :(.  Family is camping and I'm commuting to work for today and tomorrow.

Quick review.

Henderson has HHHHUUUUGGGGEEEE PPPPRRRRIIIIVVVVVAAAAATTTTTEEE, gravel sites.  Great for large RV's.  Tent campers beware.  Bath houses are nice.  Good little hike from the campground to the beach.  However, if you wish, you could drive over to the "public" beach access within the park and park and walk to the beach.  Shorter walk.

The debate is on! I love Henderson as well but I prefer St Andrews for the WATERFRONT campsites. Otherwise I would agree with you. I think the sites themselves are better at Henderson and I like the boardwalk to the beach and the A/C bath houses. But the waterfront view at St Andrews is to die for. Here is the proof

Case closed. Let me add I will be arriving on SATURDAY!

yea, thats if you get that one spot by the water with a view.  And if you don't mind reaching out and touching your neighbor.  And if you don't mind the excessive noise of a over crowded state park......:D

Seriously though.  From the sites, Henderson's is overall nicer.  Large, and I mean large sites that are far from each other and very private.  Can't hardly see any other campers when settled into your little world there.

so far its been very clean and seculded.  Have to wait to see what the weekend is like.

Beaches are the same.  Except St Andrews has the kiddie pool if you like swimming with hammerheads :D

One thing the henderson beach has over st andrews is the henderson has a seperate access to campers.  So you don't have to share the beach with the day vistors.  Personal thing, I like smaller crowds.

I do miss the jetties though.

Bottom line, can't go wrong at either.

Great pics Al.. We're going to St Andrews on 8/17 for 5 days.. Site 98 is booked for a year....

We never got to Henderson so can't eval, but sitting in the water on your own private beach under a shade tree doesn't get any better..

well, we're back. Sorry but didn't get any pictures, wife forgot to pack the camera.

Seriously though, this was my fist time actually camping at Henderson and it is super nice.

Have I said the campsites are large? We had a 30' TT, a minivan, and pick-up truck, all in the drive through site and there was still plenty of room for more cars (some friends came by Friday night). The sites are gravel and very private. The campground was quiet as well. Bathrooms were very nice. The campground had its own beach access so you had a "private" beach, didn't have to share with the day vistors.

Comparing Henderson to St Andrews, well, you are kind of comparing two different beach experiences in my opinion. I was joking around earlier. I like St Andrews as well. We go there yearly, mainly because of hte Cystic Fibrosis walk in April. Problem then is the water is to cold so we can't snokel the jetties.

i wished I had taken some stuff to do a geocaching site there. There aren't many geocach sites on SP it seems. I noticed several good places. I need to be prepared next time.

You don't see geocache sites on State parks because its against the law (unless you get specific permission ) you can not place a geocache on any state/private or near any major tourist area's for obvious reasons since 9/11
