I added a new forum topic in the general camping area for geocacheing.  I know that we have had several threads about this subject in the past and after PMing with Lesa decided that it should be added to our topics for discussion.

I thought it would be fun to not only search for treasure with our gps units but to add our own spin on this fast growing activities.  We could share some unique camping sights and experiences to the mix.  For example we could post about our favorite spot to watch the sunset complete with coordinates or you can find the moss man at Gold head state park at these coordinates.  Maybe your favorite trail head location.  You get the idea.

I would also like to thank Lesa (CAMPBUDS) for agreeing to moderate the new subject.

Greg

Greegg::::

If we start this, I will have to buy a hand operated device.  $$$$

What is this world coming to???

This could get fun.  Old folks need some fun from time to time.  Did I mention Hootchy Kootchy, Oh, that was a dance term from the early 20th century.  How bout a dancer named Little Egypt?  Pabst Blue Ribbon?  Schlitz,  Packards?

I seem to have "Tire" marks on me!

Joe, come out, come out where ever you are.

Westerns?  Howdy Doody?  The real Elvis?  N35 02.822,  W90 01.477

You guys will have me buying new toys if I start reading this. OK, give me some advice on a handheld GPS that is REASONABLY priced. I do have some spots that I love that do not have any particular features other than I think they are cool places and this seems like a good way to share them.

Westerns ruled the 50's and 60's.  We could see a western every night of the week sometimes three.  I will sometimes look at Starzs Western to see some of the old shows again.  I can remember when Bonanza came on the air.  It was in color although we did not have a color TV.  My parents had some "rich" friends that had a color TV.  We would invite ourselves over Sunday night after church to watch Bonanza in color.  Here is some of the others I can Remember.

Bat Masterson, The Gene Autry Show, Tales of Wells Fargo, Dick Powell's Zane Grey Theater, The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp staring Hugh O'Brien, The Rifleman with Chuck Conners.  And of course Wagon Train with Ward Bond.  The Real McCoys, Have Gun Will Travel, Rawhide, Hopalong Cassidy, Death Valley Days, Sergeant Preston of the Yukon, Johnny Ringo, Swamp Fox, Overland Trail, Gunsmoke, Wanted Dead or Alive, Sugarfoot, Colt 45, My friend Flika, Sky King, Wild Bill Hickock, The Lone Ranger, Roy Rodgers......

Anyway, I knows these have nothing to do with finding the treasure?

I just want to get out as cheap as possible.  I will continue to look on E-Bay

Now that brings back memories.

I had forgotten all about The Cisco Kid and Poncho.  I met them in person at Scaff's Dairy on Blanding Blvd, the current site of Harrell and Harrell and the Post Office.  They were here as a guest of Meritta Bread.  I met Roy Rodgers here sometime around 1954  56 when he came to Whitehouse to see a Palomino horse trained by Clyde Saucer and owned at the time by Elmer Rudd.  Rogers bought the horse and he became a Trigger stand-in because the real Trigger was getting old.

Thanks for the link.

I have had a few GPS units in the past several years (lost a hand held on vacation, gave one to my older kid, the other hand held is packed up with the hunting gear) and each time I up-graded. I now have the Magellan Maestro 3150 (wanted the 4250, but it was another $200) and what I like about this one compared to the Garmin I had is this one has a "Camping" category in it. It also comes with AAA tour books and their information as well.

I personally think that the Garmin was more user friendlier than the Magellan, but that's just me. I bought this one in June at Circuit City and it was $299. However, I was at Pepboys just the other day, and they had a GPS for $99 (after a $20 mail in rebate).

When we went to Yellowstone last year I used the Garmin and the only issues that I had was looking for campgrounds to stay at and naming the upcoming streets. Having the camping category is the only reason I bought the Megallen.

Hope this helps, because there are a lot of them out there.
