We bought a new RV this week and want to take it out for it's maiden voyage this weekend.  I'm on call at work so can't go far so want to stay in the Jacksonville vicinity.  I want all the amenities I can get (electric/water/sewer/wireless) and will be bringing my small dog.  Looking forward to a campfire and making smores (hubby has never made smores!), and riding bicycles.  Any suggestions as to where to go?  I see an outing on the calendar "Halloween @ Silver River".  What is that and how can we get invited :)

Hello jaxmates and welcome to the club. Congrats on the new camper. Silver River is near Ocala so that may not meet your needs for this weekend but there are a couple of places in Jax that will. To meet all of your needs you may want to try Flamingo Lake at Lem Turner and 295. They have everything you requested and should have space on short notice. Hanna Park has full hookups but no wireless that I know of. There is also The Campground at Pecan Park very nice full hook up park but a little close to the airport.

If you wanted to go as far as St Augustine there are several very nice private campgrounds that would meet all of you needs.

Lets us know how your first trip goes and think about showing off that new camper at our rally in April.

Welcome Jaxmates!

You are more than welcome to join us at Silver River. Check the calendar for the up and coming events and just join in! Be sure to join us at our Annual Rally in April.

As for local campgrounds......Sorry Ranger, but we don't care for the Hannah Park scene at all.....our opinion of course.  Not sure what area you are in, but you might be able to get into Anastasia......Greg doesn't care for Faver-Dykes, but I (Mzzz) liked it. It can get a little tight in there.

Anyway, good luck!

Also, some of us are going to General Coffee in Georgia for Thanksgiving......

Both Hannah Park and Flamingo park have openings right now for this weekend. I live on the south end of town so they are both pretty close. So is St Augustine. I see that Anastasia State park has openings as well. Anyone have any reviews of Anastasia? Also, tell me about that rally in April.

Jimmy and I love Anastasia.......you have the beach and you never have to leave the campground.

There is a thread going about the rally......look under 3rd Annual Rally.....there are posts about it there......we have a lot going on and it is SOOOOO much fun!!!

Anastasia is a great park I highly recommend it.  But again no wireless and no sewer.  Here are a couple of campgrounds in the St Augustine area that have both.

Wireless is optional as long as I'm in the Sprint service area which St augustine mostly is.

Welcome and the easiest is Flamingo Lakes up 295 and Dunn Ave Area. You can see it from the highway. The next for staying close would be Hanna Park. Both have full hookups and are within a hour of almost everything. This is Halloween weekend and I think that Flamingo is going to be a 3 day reservation. Hanna should be able to do just the weekend. Good luck and enjoy the RV.

Welcome to the club.  I've not been to Hanna Park yet , but some like it and some don't.  If you are new to RVing then I would recommend that you do just what you're doing.  Get full hookups.  You need to make sure all systems (including black & gray tanks) are working properly.  Flamingo is close and has that available. Although Hanna Park and Anastasia have some rave reviews, I'd want the sewer hookup to ensure that I either 1.  knew what I was doing with all the hoses! and 2. If I didn't know what to do, I could learn.  Best of luck and hope to meet you at an outing soon.  P.S.  There are no actual invites....everyone is always welcome to any trip!

Okay I made a decision! We're camping at Flamingo Lakes this weekend. Thanks Navyfamily about suggesting somewhere with sewer so we can test all the systems. It's Florida/Georgia weekend so it's pretty full there with lot's of activities planned so whould be fun. (Don't tell them that I'm from east Tennessee so am a die hard TN Vols fan :) Jags season ticket holder as well. Hubby and son are Gator fans so they'll love it :) Thank everyone for their help! I look forward to sharing our first camping experience with you next week.

Have a great time..   What camper do you have exactly?  I tried to look at a 13 foot Sun Valley Road Runner and think I saw a picture. The specs have it with only an 8 Gallon gray and 8 gallon black holding tanks.  Not what I'd want for alot of dry camping or non sewer hookup sites, unless you want to do 95% of your showers and "etc" in the bathhouse. Show us some pics of the new RV soon and have an awesome weekend!!

I drove by Flamingo Lake earlier today and it did look like it was filling up. Have a great time I look forward to hearing about your maiden voyage when you get back.

Welcome to the club Jax

You will love Flamingo Lakes....Also I agree with the Navy Family.....TEST EVERYTHING!!!

I'm sure you did a walk through when you picked up the camper, but check everything. We picked ours up on a Thursday, went camping on Friday and the hot water heater didn't work (it wasn't wired up), so again, check everything and if this is your first camper and your not sure how to do something, just ask anyone there, other campers will be glad to assist you.

I have learned a lot from other campers when we first started out...

Good luck and we hope we will see you at the rally in April!!

Thanks everyone for all the information. We've tested everything out and all works except for the gas water heater. Hubby plans to ask someone at the park tomorrow for advice. I'm sure we'll have a great time and I can't wait to get back and post pictures and let you know how it went!
