Hi everyone,  We are real glad to be able to communicate with other rv'rs.  We used to have a pop up camper, and now we have a 32ft Shasta travel trailer, due to the fact that we won/t go without our five dogs. This a totally new and different experience, and we want to start with short trips from home.  Any advice youall can give or just handy tips would be appreciated.  We got this monster yesterday and hope to be able to go to Jetty Park at Cocoa Beach next weekend.  That is a great place to stay.  Hope to hear from you.  Dianne & Steve

sunnyseagal  Welcome to the group.  I don't have any dogs so I can't help you with that but we have alot of members that do and I am sure that some of them will help you ideas for traveling with them.  I have many good things about Jetty park.  I hope that you will post a review of the campground here when you get back.

Greg

Welcome to the Zoo !!!

My wife is from the Coco Beach area.

As with any new travel trailer there is always a learning curve. The best advise I can give you is try to keep the cost of that learning curve as cheap as possible. Just ask Phil....he can explain that to you also !!!!:P

So go out this weekend and Enjoy !!!

Send us back a review of the campgroung you stayed at, we are always looking for new places to camp

Hi sunnyseagal and welcome to the club.  Can't give you any advise on traveling with with dogs other than don't feed them alot before going on a trip.  Dogs can get car sick too.

Hi Sunnyseagal

Welcome

Short trips are the best way to start.  Learn how all the things work in the new trailer.

One thing to watch out for is to not overload your trailer or tow vehicle with all the extra room you have. (unless you have a one ton dually :))

We take our two dogs with us when we camp. They ride in our SUV comfortably and have water available for them and try to stop and let them out ever hour or so.

I am sure you are aware of this but I will say it just in case for others.

In Florida you need to be careful with pets close to water. They are lunch for any gator sitting on the bank or in shallow water.

Drive through spots are good until you get used to backing up a larger trailer.

Take care

mike

I was just about to mention that (about the dogs). Most campgrounds will have a maximum pets allowed policy. We travel with a 20 pound little Jack Russel so we have never had any problems at all. Most State Parks enforced the "leash" law at all times. A lot of the higher end campgrounds will not allow any type of pop-up trailers and some will limit 5th wheel trailers to "self-contained" only. Meaning you have to have a permanently mounted Generator onboard. Some Campgrounds like Jetty Park in Cocoa Beach, will not allow you to leave your pets un-attended inside your trailer.

The key is careful and early planning for every trip you do. If you have any doubts what so ever, call ahead before you get there.

I agree with crazycamper, five dogs?????? hats off to you guys! :)

We are looking forward to meeting you guys!

When we went to Jetty Park we didn't take the "fids", that was a long time ago.  We have 3 Pugs and 2 Shar-pei's.  Maybe we are crazy, but hope it is do-able.  We did get portable fencing, which looks fairly easy to use, so we can fence in the patio space and be able to sit outside.  I think I will do a video of the first trip and put it on u tube.  just call us crazier campers!!

We have already decided we won't do much tourist stuff with all the dogs, but hope the portable fence we got will at least let us get outside.  This should be a real experience!!  We are going to try to go to Hanna Park the weekend after Christmas for our very first trip.  I am a little concerned about us and 5 dogs fitting on one queen size bed.  The Shar-pei,s most concern me because of their size.  I have traveled and camped with Pugs before, and at least they are small (kind of).  Look forward to meeting you-all too.:D

Thanks Mike, It is funny that you bring up the one ton dulley, we now have decided that we need one of those to  pull this monster with, and will get our practice in with the suburban on nice short trips, like Hanna Park.  That trailer grew and grew as it sat here.  Can't wait to take our first trip, so far something  ( like Steve working OT) has come up every time we thought we were going.

As for the Gators snatching up dogs,   I used to be a dispatcher at Jax S.O., and got calls where people were walking their dogs on a leash by the river, and had them snatched out of their hands. Horrible!!

We plan on doing the drive through spots, maybe forever, the way things are going.  Thanks,

Dianne

Will yall be there the weekend after Christmas?  That is when we will try to go, sure hope it works out and we can get together.  It will be nice to have someone close that knows the ropes.  We haven't ever done the tank emptying before.  With a pop up, we didn't have that to do.  It's kind of scarey, and we are afraid we will end up like Robin Williams in that movie about the RV trip.:? .D
