Clyde,

Thanks for the insider tips and don't worry, we'll never mention your name at the Marina (we don't want to be charged extra).

We'll let you know how the trip goes.

Joe

Hello Joe and Dana! Boy I know exactly what you mean when you talk about getting rid of your motorhome. We need a break from these fuel prices. I can't imagine getting rid of our bus though. even if we just camp locally...

Clyde,

We will be in Sugarloaf for Christmas (3 days) - we put in on the calendar today.  Hopefully we can meet and maybe have dinner together and watch the grass grow.

How far in advance did you have to make reservations where you are staying at Sunburst?  How do you book with Sunburst, do you have to have a membership with Encore?  We searched the internet and found "RV on the Go", but can't quite figure out how to make reservations...can you deal directly with Sunburst?  Are they booked solid?

Joe

Joe, the wife & I would love to meet up with ya'll and have dinner, and then take the wives to Mallory Square to watch the grass grow. Along with about a thousand other men who are only doing it to make their wives happy too. Maybe we can get Deloris and her family to join us also.

We have stayed at almost all of the campgrounds in and around Key West. All of them have their good and bad points. Boyds is our favorite as far as being the closest to Key West. Dawn & I rarely drink....but something about Key West and Duval St. makes us say "ah what the hell". I never drink & drive so cab fare is the cheapest to Boyds.

The KOA that you are staying at is very nice and has a marina, but the sites are small and stacked right on top of each other. And Very Busy !!!

We found Sunburst about 3 years ago. Its not much to write about,(it does have a bath house, pool, and laundry) but its small, quiet, and the sites are the largest we have found in the Keys. And the best part is they are not over priced. We arrive on the 23 of Dec. and leave on Jan. 1st  all for around $650.00. I think even with my KOA membership I was paying close to $100.00 per night at KOA Sugarloaf. I don't know if they are booked up or not but here's their number 1-305-745-1079. You do not have to be a member of encore. Its about 2 miles south of the KOA you are staying at.

One other thing....Make sure you bring your bicycles. There is very little parking on Key West. Dawn & I park my truck in the city parking garage and ride our bikes every where we go on the island.

Clyde

p.s. e-mail me at LeftTurns@aol.com and I will send you my cell phone number so we can contact each other when we get down there. Deloris same to you if ya'll would like to ride down to Key West for the day.

Which day are you planning on going to Key West for the day? We will be driving back up to John Pennekamp on the 23rd.

Delores, I say we get with Joe & his wife and see what day is good for everyone to get togeather. Dawn & I will be there for almost 2 weeks so our schedule is open. We can make a day of it, see the fort, lighthouse, Mallory square, have dinner, and still give ya'll time to drive back up to Key Largo.

We changed our reservation from KOA to Curry Hammock State Park.  We will be arriving on Dec 24th and leaving Dec 29th.

Can we rent bicycles at Key West?

We'd love for Delores and her family to meet up with us.

Anytime works with us, we have no plans, just plan on going with whatever is in front of us at the moment.

I'll send you our number.

We have a Craigcat (little two seater boat) that we were thinking of bringing, are there inland waterways we can explore?

Joe

Joe the craigcat will work great in what they call the "back counrty" I call it the mangroves. I don't know about bike rental...we always bring ours. I do know you can rent mopeds...I rented one last year and run the wheels off it.

Where is Curry Hammock State Park? Never stayed there !!!! Did you try Sunburst ????

Curry Hammock is in Grassy Keys - mile marker 56, next to Marathon Keys.  How far is this from Sunburst RV and Key West?

I tried Sunburst, they had one and it was a little more the KOA.  We went with Curry Hammock because of the price, it's allowing us to stay longer.

Joe

Joe, if its at mile marker 56 then its about 50 miles north of Key West... The mile markers go down as you head south. Mile marker 0 is at the very end of US 1 in Key West. I think we are at mile marker 18.

Did you ask Sunburst about their weekly rate... I know its cheaper that way. I guess I should have told you that in advance.
