:hello

Hello everyone!  I'm Joe and my wife Dana.  We have been camping for many years...that's how we started our marriage 28 years ago.

We love sitting around the :campfire animat  and enjoy the company of fellow campers.

We have a Motor Home, but recently purchased a pop-up to save on gas.

We haven't camped as much as wed like in the last several years; we have two children and three grandchildren and now that they are on their own, we decided to start traveling again by way of camping...hope we didn't wait too long (are we too old?? - NOT)

We will be traveling throughout the state of Florida over the Christmas holidays, about 11 days.

If anyone will be out and about during the last two weeks of Dec, let us know, your welcome to join us.

:beer

Welcome Joe and Dana,

I know that you are going to enjoy chatting on the forum. We will be camping during the end of Dec. down in the Keys and maybe in the Jacksonville area.

Hello Delores,

During our Christmas trip we were hoping to go to the keys as well, for a few days.  We are having trouble finding a place.   Have you been before?  Can you recommend a campground or know where we might be able to get a reservation?

Dana

Just kidding about being old because of grandchildren, actualy, they keep us young.  It's our kids that make us feel old.

We hope to bring the grandkids on a few of our trips.

Joe and Dana

Hello Dana,

We are staying at Curry Hammock State Park and John Pennekamp State Park. We have never been to the Keys before, but many of the other members have. Have you been there before? I just kept checking Reserveamerica.com until I saw something open up. You could post asking that question if you have not been there.

Delores,

Thanks for checking.  Not sure what we're going to do yet, the earliest we can get there is the 24th.  We'll be in Titusville the 22nd & 23rd.

We did find a KOA with available sites, but it's very expensive.  We'll keep you updated.

Welcome to the Zoo Joe & Dana !!!

The wife and I have spent the last 3 Christmas in Key West. So if you need any info feel free to ask or e-mail me.

One bit of advise if you do go to the Keys. Don't try to drive straight thru in one day. We always stop for the night in Florida City. With the holiday traffic, just the ride from Florida City to Key West can turn into a 5 or 6 hour drive.

Thanks for the advise.  Because we made our plans so late, there weren't many openings for the time frame we wanted.

We will be staying at a KOA in Okeechobee the Dec 22nd & 23rd, then we will be going to Sugarloaf Key KOA for 3 days.  We plan on coming back up towards Naples and travel the Gulf side.

Joe, If your staying at the Lion Country Safari KOA be prepared for lions roaring late into the evening. We stayed there one time on the way back home and all I wanted to do was get some sleep. I could have sworn they were right outside the camper. The campground was very nice, but I hate staying somewhere where I'm in the "Lower Part of the Food Chain"if you know what I mean.

Be sure you make time to visit Bahia Honda state park. You and the wife will love it. It is one of the few beaches down in the keys that has sand, most are rock or coral. Dawn & I spend an entire day there just goofing off.

Also the KOA in Sugarloaf has a marina that rents boats. Rent one and spend a day in the mangroves.....it's great. Just don't use my name when you go to rent the boat, or they may not let you rent one. I kinda struck a reef with one of their boats a few years ago. So when the guy at the marina see's your from Jax and  ask "Do you know a guy named Clyde from Jax?" Say NO !!!! To me any damage below the water line don't matter "unless the boat sinks". Enclosed is a picture of me pulling the boat off the reef, taken by my wife. Somehow she found humor in it.

Clyde
