It's time to start thinking about the rally in 2010. I am sure that many will agree that we may not want to push our luck with the gnats at Crooked River again. So I would like to ask for suggestions for next years rally.
There are a couple of things to consider when suggesting campgrounds. First off due to our need for a larger meeting facility. We need to find a place with a meeting hall or covered pavilion that will seat 100. The room at Crooked River seats 80 and we were so tight we had to seat one family outside of the main hall. This requirement severely limits our options especially when it comes to state parks so please include private parks when making suggestions.
Our members camp using all types of camping equipment including tents and pop ups so be sure that your suggestions take this in to consideration. Some private parks do not allow them.
I have been going over the state park and a commercial camping guide and I have not been able to find a park with in a reasonable driving distance that meets both of the two major needs seating capacity for the potluck and allows tents/popups.
If we can't find a campground that meets both of these needs then my number one pick for the 2010 rally is Stephen Foster State Park in White Springs.

Silver River would be at the top of my list except I believe they do not have an area for a pot luck.
I would also like to add Bulow RV Resort to Bailiff’s list.

I'll leave it to the more experienced campers to make the suggestions. Just tell me the where and when so I can start preparing for the charity and the kids crafts.

I'm ok with Bailiff's order too.
I liked Stephen Foster when we all went last year. Rainbow Springs is supposed to open this summer for sure.

How about Yogi Bear in Madison, Fl. 1.5 hours from Jacksonville (I think around 100 miles)
http://www.yogicampingflorida.com/
They have plenty of camping area with full hook up to tent camping and they have a few cabins available to rent (Very limited on the cabins). They also offer 2 pavilions available (one seats 250 people).
We have camped here several times and with kids, and every time they have offered a lot of activities for them to do. (average in prices)
So my suggestions
1. Yogi Bear....Madison, FL.
2. Eagles Roost RV Resort...Lake Park, GA (http://www.eaglesroostresort.com/)
3. Stephen Fosters....White Springs, FL.
4. Laura Walker....Waycross, GA.
5. Blythe Island Regional Park Campground...Brunswick, GA (not sure on the size of the pavilion)

| I tried to call Yogi today to find out about the pavilions but kept getting the machine. Thanks for the info.

| We did Yogi Bear in Madison, Fl. a couple of years ago. There is not much to do in the area and the campground wants EXTRA for the lake, pool, paddle boats, and about anything else that you want to do. Also there are 100's of kids there and that is a holiday weekend. JMHO. Just thought I would give a small review about Yogi. However, I am willing to go along with the final choice.

We'll go anywhere Greg. Yogi does charge a $15 fee if you want to use all of their extra kiddie amenities. The best time to go to relax is anytime as long as it's not a holiday. They are normally full and being a park designed for kids, they will be a bunch of them over there.
I have never camped at Eagles Roost, but I hear it's really nice from a co-worker and they welcome camping clubs as well. I think I read that they have a pavilion that will host 200 people. It's about the same distance as Yogi, located right off I-75 at exit 5 in Georgia.

Thanks Richard I will check them out.
I realize that no campground is perfect and that it will be impossible to make everyone happy. I just want to do everything possible to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to join us at the next rally and that we have a large enough area for the potluck.
I would also like to have the date and place set by the end of April so keep those suggestions coming.

We stayed at Eagles Roost in Lake Park Ga, they are next door to a flea market that is open on the weekends and just off I75 so you do hear traffic. There were some discount shops around the area also. It is big enough to hold about 150 RV's. Here is a review from March 2009: http://www.rvparkreviews.com/regions/Georgia/Lake_Park.html
Across I75 is a KOA that we stayed at this last year. The kids had a great time and they serve free continitial breakfast every morning.
This is in Lake Park and is about 20 minutes to Wild Adventures Park with rides, shows and a water park, with that said if we go there this time of year the park is closed.

Fort Mc Allister is a nice state park, and the shelter will seat 150. The restored fort is kid-friendly(and a learning experience). There is a hiking trail and boat ramp with a fishing pier.
It's near Richmond Hill, GA, so not too far for a weekender. I think there's only 65 sites, don't know how many we'd need. Just another one to consider.
See y'all --- Billy

I am afraid Fort McAllister would be off my list. There flying teeth problem is about as bad as Crooked River. We have visited Fort McAllister twice Spring and Fall, both times, the teeth were sharp and hungry.

| Please no flying teeth. My bites just stopped itching 4 days ago. Guess I'm allergic just like I am to fire ant bites.

It's a shame about the flying teeth problem. Crooked River is a very nice park but like others I don't think we'll return there.
No flying teeth please.
