I would really like to do a service project at the rally this year.  We built some fencing at Gold Head state park at our first rally and I think it was a worth while project and gave all of us an opportunity to give something back to the state park system that we use every month.

There are two possible projects available one would require us to build a horse shoe court at the park.  We would be required to provide all of the needed equipment for this project.

The other project is to remove some outdated fencing from a service area of the park.  This project would not require us to provide anything other than labor.  This is a project that the park needs done but has not had the opportunity or resourced to complete.

I would like some feedback from the club as to whether or not we can do a project this year and which one we would like to participate in.

Thanks
Greg

Removing the fencing would be easy.   However to do the horshoe pit we may need more info...What supplies would be neede etc....  I'd be willing to help with either.   Need a tool list also.  Would I need to bring a table saw??  a compound mitre saw  etc.....  Let me know what you need.

If we do the fence thing, does this mean we would have to have it hauled away or would they have a place to take it????

The Horse shoe pit would be cool, then we could have a horse shore tournament. We use to do this all the time after work.

I found this online, it may help.

    History
The concept behind the game of horseshoes dates back to ancient Rome. Roman soldiers would pass the time with games consisting of throwing metal rings over stakes pounded in the ground.

    Overall Pit Dimensions
A horseshoe pit consists of a regulated, measured playing area. The overall length is set at 48 feet and the width is 6 feet; both are measured from the back of the pitching areas.

    The Pitcher's Box
Per National Horseshoe Pitchers Association of America regulations, the pitcher's box is to be 6 feet by 6 feet.

    The Pit
The minimum size a pit may be is set at 31 inches by 43 inches; the maximum allowed pit size is 36 inches by 72 inches.

    The Stake
The stake in a horseshoe pit should extend out from the ground and measure 14 to 15 inches with a slight tilt forward, around 3 inches.

    Pitching Platform
Regulations state that the pitching platform dimensions should extend 18 to 20.5 inches. An extended platform is allowed for youth pitchers, and may be placed an additional 10 feet in front of the pit.

I think the fence would be easier to meet the state requirements what ever they are

Richard we would not have to haul the fence away the park would take care of that.

Ed you are correct we would have to submit plans for the horse shoe pit.

Ok after reading your responses and talking with the Park manager I think it would be better if we just did the fence removal.
