As part of this year's 1st Annual Camping Rally the club would like to hold a raffle to benefit a charity which involves what is closest to our club's core belief of family, friends & camping.
With that in mind we have narrowed it down to three different Florida charities to select from. They are as follows...
Camp Boggy Creek ~ The Mission of Camp Boggy Creek is to enrich the lives of children who have chronic or life threatening illnesses by creating camping experiences that are memorable, exciting, fun, empowering, physically safe and medically sound. http://www.boggycreek.org/2006/home.asp
Quest's Camp Thunderbird ~ Since 1969, Quest’s Camp Thunderbird has been dedicated to providing a real summer camp experience for people with developmental disabilities. Campers of all ages have had the time of their lives participating in the activities such as camping, fishing, swimming, canoeing, arts & crafts, sports & games, evening socials, nature study and more! http://www.questinc.org/camp.htm
Rotary's Camp Florida ~ To provide a special Camp for children with special needs. The Camp encourages and fosters children to: Enjoy and appreciate nature; Play, make new friends and create wonderful memories;Learn about, master and share their challenges; Grow in character, self-confidence and determination; Develop life changing skills and opportunities http://rotaryscampflorida.org/Default.asp
Given the Charities' Mission Statements above and visiting their websites, please select the charity you think best represents our club. Poll will close on January 5th, 2008.
Thank you for your help.~ Mandy

| We are currently working on getting sponsors and/or prizes for this and our other raffles. As it stands now the Charity Raffle will be a 50/50 split.

Wow 70 views and only 7 votes. I voted for Boggy Creek because of its affiliation with the Hole in the wall group. I have heard a lot of good things about this group especially about the Victory Junction camp that is run by the Petty family.

My son attends Camp Boggy Creek so I can speak from personal experience that this place is truly amazing and awe inspiring. What they offer to the kids there is really hard to put into words. They offer exceptional support for families as well---they have a family weekend twice a year for us to attend. A couple of weeks ago we went to the holiday party at camp---almost 900 people attended and everyone of us felt special!
We love Boggy Creek---it gets the vote of our family. (If I can figure out how to vote more than once---I just may do that!!)

YEAH!
Here is a link or 2 if anyone wants more info on Boggy Creek
http://boggycreek.org/2006/BA0910702.pdf
http://boggycreek.org/2006/BA1010702.pdf
Also---they have a need list posted on the main website if you want to purchase items with the money raised instead of giving a cash donation---some people prefer to see where the money is spent instead of giving blindly. I personally have no preference because I know the Boggy Creek board are good stewards of donations they receive.

Animal painting was one of my son's favorite activities (he picked a goat!)--his other favorite was the food fight and then getting hosed down by the fire truck. Maybe you could arrange that after our potluck at the rally! I'm a little jealous--who can't resist the fun of somone screaming "FOOD FIGHT!"
