I met with Mr. Poplin today at Gold Head.

His concern and what they are addressing is campers using areas outside their designated campsites, causing destruction to the native plants and grasses.  We observed a few occupied campsites where they had a vehicle parked between campsites just using available land.  A tent was observed away from the designated dirt campsite under some trees.

He wants us to construct a type of rail fence or barricade at various sites (to be marked) in the Sand Hill Loop.  He has some treated landscape timbers and some drill screws.  We will have to cut and install the material at the designated spots.  I don't like the design or the materials the park is using but with limited resources, that is all we have.  This fix will only last a couple of years to allow trees, grasses and underbrush to return to those areas.

We will need to have members bring Circular Saws, Battery Drills with Square Head and Phillips bits, 2-4' Levels and Saw Horses if possible.  Tape Measure, Axes, Shovels, Hard Rakes and Post-hole Diggers will also be needed.

I suggest we make up into 4-5 man teams to hit the areas quickly.  1 team to cut the material, 1 team to assemble the fence, 1 delivery team and 3-4 teams to install it.  I have all ideas we could knock this project out in less than 4 hours.

We are to cut the timbers in half to make the post.  The post will have a 4-5" cripple cut in one end as a support for the 4' or 8' rail attached depending on the size of the area to be blocked off.  Some areas may require us to assemble several sections together.  The cut-out piece from the post will be attached to the bottom of the post to make it harder for someone to pull up the post.  The rail is to have a cut to match the cripple cut making the attachment strong.

How about us having a POW-WOW Friday afternoon around beer time:beer and before the get together to sort things out and choose sides.  Poplin said he would have some of his crew deliver the material to my site 16 so I guess we should meet there.  We should quiz the others to determine when beer time is, I mean what time they can attend on Friday.

I told Poplin I would return before the Rally on the 3rd of March to see if all is well.

I have one of each tool as does Greg.  It probably wouldn't hurt to bring more.  I know mine are at least 20 years old.  Any way, we will also need to do a kind of foreman search for each team.. All you carpenters step forward.

An example of what we will try to prevent is in the picture.  This is at Lakeview Loop #74

I can bring some of the tools. But with my wing clipped and in a sling I do not know how much help I will be.
