| Don.....maybe we'll just make this a 4 night kayak trip instead of 3 and take our good ole time. Let the youngens get ahead of us, pitch camp and have dinner ready for us when we get there! We leave our trucks at American Canoe Adventures in white springs. For a nominal fee they load our kayaks and gear on one of their trailers and drop us off at the Suwannee in Fargo, Ga. Since I don't have a Ga. fishing license we need to make it across the Ga. Fl. state line on the first day which is easy to do. I think American Canoe Adventures use to rent kayaks but I'm not sure if they still do. Here is their web site http://www.aca1.com/ I'd love to go this year but can't make it happen. August is way to hot, September is booked and we have another grandchild due sometime in October. If Joe trains hard enough he can enter the 7th annual kayak race on Oct 11 from Fargo to White Springs. I think the record time is just under 8 hours!!!

My full time buddy, who is still on the road, talked about doing a suwanee yak trip a while back and I'm about ready to do some serious training to get back into kayaking shape.. My trip last winter with a rental for 5+- miles was tough but so enjoyable..
We gotta talk pal!! See you at SR this week end!
PS: I have designed a auto-pig turner but having problems with the tossing mechanism vs weight (500lbs) It can toss a 300 lb pig up from the pit about 4'.
This site is consuming Mary Ellen, I have to fix my own meals now!
Later,
Don
This is getting serious, the man needs to eat!

Alright Guys! Things are getting serious here!! Been formulating plans for a new kayak and gear needed.. (LL Bean knows us by first name) But now that I'm on a fixed income I may have to settle for Sams and Wal*Mart and get a local kayak..
We have a nice rental outfit here near Weekie Wachie that lets you tryout all their stock.. The last one I tried I had a hard time getting out of.. But sure tracked well..
I had a old town Loon 138 that was nice with open cockpit and good to carry supplies but still weighing options.. Can't carry it on top of the RV but could mount it vertical on the rear bumper if it isn't too long The Loon 111 is also another possibility.. Just using LL as a guide. Love the ($2k+ ocean going models)
So far my list of priority supplies is bug spray and 4 cases of beer.. Thinking of hauling a big tube for a generator and fridge..
Joe! Get started on training! I'm going to start lifting weights.. maybe tomorrow.... I gotta take a nap now, I'm exhausted with all this heavy thinking..
Anxious to talk about these things with you all.....
Don

Don…..as you probably know, there are all kinds of kayaks to choose from these days. It all depends on how and where you plan on using it. I have the Wilderness Systems Pungo 140 which is 14 feet long, a little wider than most, has a 350 pound capacity (person & gear), large cockpit, is fast on the water and I love it. My oldest son has the same one and he is 6’-7” & 280 pounds. I have an adjustable skirt that covers the forward part of the open cockpit and keeps water out that drips off of the paddle. I also added more tie down bungy straps to the top of mine. I don’t have a rudder and don’t need one. The Pungo 120 is a shorter version and still has about the same capacity as the Pungo 140. http://www.wildernesssystems.com/kayaks/sporting.php I’ve tried the two person kayaks and I personally do not like them. I was in a 3 person kayak in Haines, Alaska a few years back and that trip was a nightmare.…but that’s another story.

Tom, looks like we have a lot in common including age though I'm borderline fosil class.. Spent 3 years in Alaska.. What a place.
Like your Pungo 140 alot.. This is what I had: http://www.oldtowncanoe.com/kayaks/recreation/loon_138.html
Later,
Don
