While at Salt Springs this Spring, we saw a couple gliding through the water without paddles.  They had a Hobie Kayak that uses foot power.  Black Creek Outfitters is supposed to carry them locally.  I might look into one like that. $$$

Black Creek Outfitters http://www.blackcreekoutfitters.com/blackcreek/ is where I bought my kayak many years ago.  I see the price on mine has gone up quite a bit.  They have a large lake out back with a low dock for getting in and out of a kayak.  This is a great place to try out different kayaks before you buy one.  A younger couple up the creek from me have a two seater Hobie like the one Richard linked to.  I see them go by every now and then and they seem to move along pretty good.  There isn't much storage area for camping gear and you would have to remove the under water paddle fins in certain low water areas upstream of the Suwannee.

The picture below is a few years old and features on the left my neighbor who says he will not kayak the Suwannee again, #1 son in the middle and my other neighbor who cain't wait to go with us next year.

Joe,

If I can find the crook that broke into my truck and get him to loan me some of that non returnable $ then I will be ready.  By the way, I paid for the window myself this time cause it would have gone against homeowners.  They just look for a reason to cancel your policy.

Good evening all.......I would be up for that kayaking trip that everyone is talking about. I have kayaked most of the swuanee in stages, and would like to do it with a group of friends. By the way, is anyone camping at Manatee Springs SP the weekend of August 15? My wife and I will be there and will be kayaking providing good weather.

Jack

Gator.....it would be great to have you with us on the Suwannee trip next spring.  Hope we can meet you on a camping trip before that.

We were at Manatee Springs awhile back and did a lot of biking on the trails.  Some of the trails are neat.  We made the mistake of taking one of the trails that ended up being a lot of soft sand and had to push our bikes close to 1/2 mile total off and on.  Stay away from the fence area in the upper right of this picture.

Tom and Val...I know that trail very well, and you are right....that sand is a killer. If you like to bike, the trails in and around Stephen Foster SP in White Springs are great. I mountain bike those pretty often and it makes it nice that the campground is so close. I am looking forward on meeting everyone on our travels.

Jack…If you get a chance to camp at Hanna Park in Jacksonville there about 15 miles of bike trails through the woods.  Some are easy and some are grueling.  The trail Misery lives up to it’s name.  At least for me it does.  I usually don’t bike off road there when the temp is above 65 degrees.

Hanna Park

Thank you for the link to Hanna Park. It looks great, and I look forward to visiting it. We are moving our son to Jacksonville next week for school, so we will be spending a fair amount of time in the area.
