My neighbor and I are thinking about going on another kayak trip next spring in April or May from Fargo, Ga. to White Springs, Fl. The Suwannee River in this area is the most scenic and isolated. My two sons will probably go with us. Just wondering if there are any other kayakers in the club. This could also be turned into a kayak/camping trip at the start and stop points. Exact time frame will depend on the river’s water level. During Thanksgiving 2004 four of us kayaked from White Springs, Fl. to the Suwannee River State Park. The first morning of this trip was warm and sunny. The second morning was bone chilling cold and the temp got down to 23 degrees. This trip was 43 miles and we spent two nights on the river bank. In May 2005 five of us kayaked from Fargo, Ga. to White Springs, Fl. This trip was 52 miles and we spent 3 nights on the river bank. Here are a few photos of our trips.

| Wow great pics! I have one question for you or those that do kayaking... Something I would like to try out with our own family, but doesn't your butt and legs fall asleep? Or how would one prevent that during long trips?

| We stop about every hour to stretch our legs. Most kayak seats and backs are padded. My neighbor added some neoprene to his seat for more comfort. The only thing that bothers most people on long trips is their shoulders and sometimes their back. My other neighbor went with us on the first trip and swore he would never go again. The only thing that kept him going is there was no place to get off to call his wife to come and pick him up!!!

| Joe....Fargo to White Springs by kayak is 52 miles. I use my GPS and satellite photos marked with way points to track our progress. We have it down to a science. We also put Blue Emu on our shoulders to keep them from getting sore. We will spend 3 nights along the river bank on white sand beaches. You've got about 8 months to train for it!!! We kayaked all the time in Maine and I miss it sooooo much! I can't do it any more, but Don can and has done just a little with rented kayaks. We gave ours to our sons when we sold the house and went full-timing. Don wants to buy another one and I have been bugging him to do it. I've told him he needs to start training now and he's interested in the trip....please, please, please work on him this weekend, Tom?

I viewed all your photos. Great work.
Was that photo with the rapids at Big Shoals or at another spot?
As a kid, my Dad would put on Powerboat Trips, on various Holiday Weekends along waterways in Florida, which I really enjoyed. We sometimes rented cabins or camped on the banks. Oklawaha River, Suwanee, Intercoastal Waterway. Although we didn't Kayak, we enjoyed it just the same. In 1965, I water skied non stop all the way from Manatee Springs to the Gulf with my brother in Law.
Donna and I were amazed at all the Kayaks we saw in New England. Seemed like every other car had the modified ski racks converted to hold Kayaks. We have thought about the possibility of getting a two person one and rack for the top of the truck. We of course would only do small calm water jaunts.
Again, I bet that was a great adventure. Something to share with the kids.

| Richard....picture # 22, 23 & 24 of the second set are at Big Shoals. Picture 24 was actually taken a few weeks later when my #2 son went back with some of his friends after the water level has risen. They spent the day shooting the rapids which he said were class 3. Not exactly my cup of tea. When I was there we hauled the kayaks out at the portage area and put them back in downstream of Big Shoals. The water was so low we were afraid we would damage the bottom of our kayaks.

OK Tom! You've got my juices flowing again!!! $%%^!!# I gave away all my stuff when we went full time RVing.. Gotta start all over which isn't a bad thing..
My full time buddy, who is still on the road, talked about doing a suwanee yak trip a while back and I'm about ready to do some serious training to get back into kayaking shape.. My trip last winter with a rental for 5+- miles was tough but so enjoyable..
We gotta talk pal!! See you at SR this week end! 
PS: I have designed a auto-pig turner but having problems with the tossing mechanism vs weight (500lbs) It can toss a 300 lb pig up from the pit about 4'.
This site is consuming Mary Ellen, I have to fix my own meals now!
