Hi!

How does anyone keep spices that are kept in the camper from getting hard and unusable?  I know it gets hot inside, do you all just take them in after every camping trip?

What would happen if I put them in the refridgerator?

Thanks for your suggestions!!!!

Although the heat can play a part ruining your spices, but here in fl it'd the moisture that makes the spices stick and turn ugly. Remember spices are dried out before packaging so I would't recommend the refrigerator for storing. You can put some rice in each spice like you do with salt to help with moisture. I store our camping spices in a clear rubbermaid topped container and keep it in our home until we're ready to camp.

Thanks so much.  I thought about putting them in tupperware and leaving them in the camper to try, but I guess I should just take them in.  Just one more thing to put on my "don't forget to load it" list before we leave each time!!!!

Thanks again!

Moisture is a killer for a lot of problems when storing your camper. Mildew, dampness, spices, sugar, and flour going bad or getting hard. If you keep clothes in the camper, some of them will get damp especially if there is a lot of rain right before you go camping. Also moisture will cause musky odors in the camper. There is a product out there that will help this problem. It's called Damp Rid and you can pick it up at Home Depot, Lowes, Wal_Mart, and maybe a grocery store.

Just a thought!

Damp rid works rather well for us also. We put the tub on the counter and leave it open while we are at home . As we have a truck camper, does not take much to dry it out.

A tub lasts about 2-3 weeks before needing refilled.

our solution to this problem is stick em in ziplocks and put em in a drawer! Or at least someplace out of the sun.

THanks!

I keep my salt and pepper shakers in a zip lock and haven't had the problem with them.  I also keep flour and sugar in a tupperware canister with the "push down in the middle" seal, and no problem there.  I think I'll try putting the spice jars in a zip lock and then put the bag in a large tupperware for storage.  A little easier than taking them back to the house every time!

Thanks so much!

I have not had much of a problem with this as I normally keep the camper plugged in all the time and keep it well ventilated. One of the perks of keeping it in the back yard.
