Can anyone recommend a reliable braking system?  We're in the market for one.  Just purchased a 17' Ameri-Lite, pulling with a 2003 Chevy Trailblazer.  The ride home from purchase was good but we want to get a brake system installed ASAP.

Has anyone had a system installed recently by Dick Gore's, SunCoast RV? Or can you recommend a reliable company in the Jacksonville, FL area that can install one.

We're new to the camping family so any information is much appreciated!

Thanks.

gatspivey First off welcome to the group and congratulations on the purchase of your new camper. I am sure that any of the three major dealers (Rivers, Dick Gores, Suncoast) would be able to help you with the installation of your braking system.

We have a Tekonsha brake controller and it has worked well for us these past 7 years.

Also Welcome to the group!
I purchased my coach from Dick Gores in 2006 and they installed a brake controller on my truck along with my hitch work. However when they installed everything, I thought one brake controller was just as good as the other one. A year later, I change the controller over to a digital one. The main reason was I was always adjusting the cheaper one. Every time we went camping I had to adjust, while we were traveling and doing a lot of braking, I had to adjust. Now that I have the "Tekonsha PRODIGY Trailer Brake Controller 90185" I only had to adjust it when I first had it installed and I haven't touched it since. It's been going on 2 years now.

As the old saying goes, you get what you pay for. This is very much true on brake controllers.

Good luck!

Welcome to our group, always good to have new folks join in. The Prodigy Brake controller consistently gets the best reviews. There are other good ones also. Is your vehicle pre-wired for a BC? If it is it is a very simple plug and play install easily done by the DIY type. If not pre-wired it is best to have it done by a dealer. I have gotten very good service from Dick Gore's on several items including my close encounter with lightning. They were able to diagnose all the problems and get them corrected quickly. You will also recognize some of us from some of the other RV forums, but this is a little closer to home here and a lot more friendly.

We use the Tekonsha Prodigy #90185 (pulling with a Chevy Blazer).  We bought it new off of ebay and Mark installed it.  We've had it 2.5 years with no problems.

Call Ben Ponder at Ben's RV in Whitehouse.  He has done my 2nd air, my vents, my converter and many other things.  He will do a great job and not cost a bunch of $.  Probably do it in a couple of minutes.  He works out of his house on Grayson Street.  Call him at 904-786-2437.  Better install than other dealers.  He is busy but call and I bet he can work you in.  Tell him Richard Stokes of C&S  sent you.

Most opt for the Voyager but he can get the Prodigy if thats what you want.
