I was almost born here!  My mom and dad were tent camping here when my mom went in to labor.  They rushed to the hospital and was born a few short hours later.  That may explains why I love to camp---I was born a camper!

We just got back from a weekend at the fort and all I can say is WOW! What a great place thats been right under our nose.  The candleight tour of the fort is fabulous. The reinactors do a fantastic job of setting the mood. The kids really had a blast climbing all the oaks in the river campground. This place is definately one of our new favorites.

We too love Fort Clinch but it is becoming hard to get a site for the weekend.  I really enjoy it when all the Security is in force on the river and it makes one proud when a "Boomer" comes or goes.

I'll be here solo, site # 27 (Riverside)from Feb 10 - 18, stop by and say Hello, if'n you're in the neighborhood. Well really only solo until Fri, then DW will be flying into JAX, and traveling home with me on Monday.

Agree, hard to get weekend reservations, this is a definite plan ahead, way ahead CG, but worth the planning.  A great bicyling park.

We go every year in November to the History of the American Soldier.  I have again made reservations for November 7,8,9 and 10.  I was scanning each week for available dates and it appears the Beach is booked solid.  There are a few sites on the beach during this Event Weekend.

Richard.  Is the event held all weekend or just on Veterans day?

The program will be Saturday night the 8th in the Fort.  The Program consist of a History Lesson Narrated by the Senior Park Ranger.  Admission is one can of food.

A re-enactor or portrays a soldier from each conflict/war the American soldier has endured throughout our history.  Dressed in period uniform, they march up onto the stage while a historical narration is given as to their life, the conflict and there weapons.  Each soldier fires their weapon and retires to the West Wall of the Fort.  At the end of the Program, A spot light is shined onto the Soldiers at attention an the wall.  The Veterans in the audience are identified as are VIP's.  Last year, a WWII Veteran was awarded the Bronze Star for his actions in Belgium in the Battle of the Bulge.

The picture in my previous post was from a soldier in the Spanish American War.

We bring our lawn chairs and sit under Old Glory on the Parade Grounds, each year, I get chills.

We'll probably come out to visit you guys for the day.  The trip is too close to the other big one we have planned for Thanksgiving.  Don't want to over do it with the little one.

We made our reservations the other day for Nov. 7th-11th.   We will be in Site#33. We are not beach people at all so we like the river side.  I am looking forward to the History of the American Soldier program (thanks Richard).

Steve

Steve,

You guys already enjoy the park.  If the weather holds out, you will experience a program that brings chills.  Seems the ghost's of the fort are watching the program.  As a former Navy PO, I believe this program is more honorable and patriotic than the annual Veterans Parade in Washington DC.  Best of all, it is at Donna's most desirable facility close to home and without a doubt, the best SP in Northeast Florida.
