As promised, here is our review of Laura Walker State Park.  As Flattire had expressed in an earlier post, not a good time for pop ups, it has rained all of Friday night and today.

Laura Walker SP is located about 10 miles East of Waycross Georgia off US 82 and Georgia 177.  It took less than two hours travel time from our home near Cecil Field.  The park is on a hill at the banks of a man made lake.  The park has 44 gravel campsites sever of which are pull through.  Each site has water and electricity but no sewer.  Most sites observed were level and most well drained.  There are two bath houses, an older one and a new one just recently opened.  The toilet and showers were well maintained and clean.

Away from the campground are several bunkhouse type cabins and a large kitchen facility that make up a group camp for over 100.  A swimming pool is on site however, it requires a fee and was closed for the season.  There is an 18 hole golf course and clubhouse located just down the road or across the lake.  A concrete boat ramp is also located across the lake.

Other than the weather being terrible, our trip has been excellent.  We went to Ruby Tuesday for lunch today and also purchased two new recliners from Pearce Furniture to be delivered next week.  Tonight, we hosted our friends to fillet mignon grilled medium rare with salad, potato and yeast rolls.:margaritta

I am enclosing a link to my picture albums which contain the photos I took of the park.  Please allow time for the photos to load and clear.

Richard   Thanks for the review.  Looks like a nice place even with the grey sky.

Just to add out 2 cents worth...We camped there 02/15-02/19.  We thought is was a very nice campground with your basics.

A few things that stuck out...

Very, very clean.  I dont think I spotted a loose piece of trash anywhere the whole time we were there.  Even the dump station and trash dumpster was always clean and the park was at capacity.

There is a easy hiking trail across the entrance to the park.  Part boardwalk, part hard packed ground.  Maybe 1.25 mile.  Bike friendly and well maintained.  Had a small creek running next to part of it and a few benches for resting along the way.

Laura Walker golf course is close by and is quite good.  Greens were very challenging.  They were running a $25 special for 18 holes and cart for month of Feb.  The greens and tee boxes were in great shape but the fairways were brown due to watering restrictions.  Make a tee time for sure.  they are busy on the weekends.

Okeefenoke park is about 5 miles away.  $20 gets you train ride/1 hour guided boat ride and access to park and all shows.  The fires did massive amounts of damage that you can really see on the boat tour.  Nice way to spend about 3 hours in the nice weather.  Not a good place in the summer though.

Inner loop is VERY tight.  I honestly dont know how some of those trailers got parked in there.  We have a 33' TT and just barely made it through the trees and past the bath house.  There are about 6 premium sites that are on the outer loop and next to the lake.  Well worth springing for and we will on our next trip there.

Happy Camping,

Chris and Jimmy
