Would have made a post last night but no internet or phone.  Smack in the middle of state park.

This park in some ways resembles Salt Springs, and looks like other parks with the close in growth.  Only the growth is hardwood forest, much like north Georgia. (not Palmetos)

The park is very large and campground is quite small.  Only 31 sites.  All have 30@50 amp service, fire rings, picknic, new water conections, tables , fire rings and quite a bit of room between sites.

Will try and downsize some pictures for later.  Staying at Peach Queen Campground about 30 miles south of Birmingham on I-65 tonight.  This just a good good place to stop for one night.

The caverns are great as well. We took the tour this morning, 8.00 each and it is well worth. We are continueing on to Mamouth cave, and Diamond Cave Kentucky to do some comparisons.

My parents went to Mamouth cave a couple of years ago and said it was pretty neat.  Have a great time!

I am not sure if you will be in the area but The
Lost Sea Caverns in Sweetwater TN is worth the trip. There is a very nice KOA nearby that we stayed at.

Mamouth Cave is very impressive, I've been many times.  My first trip I was in the 4th grade, later in my teens and again in my twenties.  Equally impressed every time I went.

does the Blue Hole (the swiming hole) have any water in it? We went last year and it was dried up. Ended up going to morris springs, a city/county day park right down the road to swim.

I'm from that area, so everyyear growing up some group I was in would do a field trips to the Marianna Caverns. They changed the name sometime down the road. Hadn't been in a long time and was dissapointed the swimming hole was dry.

Blue hole is dry. Mamouth cave was quite dissapointing. They are doing construction on the new building and everything is all messed up/. The place quite busy for this time of year.
Gas does not seem to be slowing these folks down.

Thats to bad about the blue hole. I have swam that hole, the coldest water I had ever been in. It was 68 degrees.

everything is dry right now. the drought has it dried up to nothing more than a mud hole. I'm not sure how much of a spring it is as I think its fed by the chipola river

Sorry to hear Mammoth was a disappointment, hope it was because of the construction.  I found it to be great every time I visited, of course, I never visited during any construciton.

you are not very far away from Three Rivers State Park - Sneads, fl  We just spent 3 days there last week,  Highly recommend checking it out.  It is a very beautifule well clean park.  The camp host/hostess are awesome, the staff/Rangers are great.  You won't be disappointed, I don't think.
