Hello Everyone,
The kids and I had a great time camping at Huguenot Park this weekend. Our stay was very peaceful. This park has a lot of natural beauty to experience; however, we weren’t able to get out and explore the park like we wanted to because we had some events that caused us to be away from the campground part of each day, but we will return very soon. Our site, number 57, was a river front site with its own little private beach area and path to the river’s shore. We could see Mayport Naval across the water, which put on an awesome fireworks show this weekend. Our site was great as far as location to facilities; privacy (distance from neighbors); lack of site flooding with rain; views; walking along the river’s beach; spotting dolphins and various sea creatures; watching ships and boats; and collecting shells. The staff at the park was very friendly and helpful. I think that they do an awesome job trying to keep the facilities and park up considering the amount of people they have going through the park daily. They even had a security guard assigned to the campground all night. I agree with previous posts about Huguenot Park being neglected compared to Hannah Park, which I love. I think that this park would give Hannah Park some serious competition if the city did some improvements; even with this being a primitive campground I think that its beautiful beaches and bluish water would draw a larger camping crowd. The city really needs to improve the restroom situation, 2 female showers and 2 male showers. A campground without hookups needs more showers. I must add that the restrooms were clean considering the volume of people using them around the clock. I don’t think that the city should go crazy and start messing things up with their improvements, but improve key things like the roads and restrooms, nothing that would lead to the natural beauty of the park being compromised.

Delores. I was just wondering how your trip went this weekend. We really like Huguenot Park as well. We were thinking about going there last this weekend also but could not get a river site.

Greg,
We really enjoyed the campground. Dry camping wasn't that bad. I only used the generator once and that was to iron our cloths on Saturday for church. The breezes from the ocean and the river kept it pretty cool. I think that Huguenot is going to be a quick and economic getaway for us. You can't beat the location. I had to remind myself that it was a beach area so that the sand getting everywhere in the TT wouldn't drive me batty. I can't wait to get back and explore the park. I think that it may be a water lover's paradise for this area. I was skeptical about camping there in the past though, but I think that it is a great little spot, not considering some things that need improving. Oh yeah, the rain storm that came through while we were out there made me think that tent camping may not be as fun as I thought it would be. We'll see. We are definitely going back.

| When I was a younger man, the Jetties (Hugenot Park) was the happening surfing spot on the Northside. Spent many a weekend there on the beach before it was a park.

I used to sit on the beach watching the surfers back then. LOL
We used to party back then in that area.
