This was our first trip to Gamble Robers Memorial State Recreation Area. What a lovely park. The beach was perfect although we couldn't get in past knee deep because of Bertha. The view was spectacular. Bathrooms were super clean even the bathrooms down by the boat launch. I thought the camp host hubby a bit grumpy, but hey the wife could have made him sleep on the couch the night before.
We attended a fishing demonstration Saturday morning with Ranger Larry. He swore to us he had caught some fish before the group arrived, but you know fishermen they always tell tales. Had no luck catching anything on Saturday midmorning and only caught 2 idunnos (please identify if possible) early Sunday morning. Used live shrimp well they were alive when we bought them at the bait shop and were DOA an hour later as bait.
Oh yeah and the company was as always entertaining and lovely to be with.
Just posting album for photos for now...

I'd like to go too. I've never stayed on a site close to the ocean. But I did grow up in a house close to the ocean.
It looks like fun.

We consider Gamble Rogers a great get away and a Gem in the Florida SP arena. I was concerned by the close proximity to A1A but did not hear anything after 10-11 PM.. If it comes a real Florida frog strangler, the campground is like a bowl for several minutes afterwards. It is a real shame that only a few members have been able to experience this park. It's close proximity to Daytona Beach makes it a real Snow Bird Magnet in winter and local favorite in summer. We did get reservations for 2 weekend this year even though it is a real busy place.

I agree with Richard this park is a gem. If you love the beach you really need to check out this campground.
We camped at Gamble Rodgers this weekend with Loves2camp and a great time. In addition to the fishing program on Saturday the park also held a narrative beach walk on Friday morning hosted by the park resource officer Mike. We spent 1.5 hours walking along the beach with him learning about this fragile ecosystem. Since it is currently nesting season for the sea turtles we were able to view several nests and learn some new things about them from Mike. While watching two expert anglers work their magic on Sunday we were also blessed with being able to see a couple of Manatees swim by in the boat basin.
Our kids had a great time at the park and asked how soon we could come back. Which to me was the best part of the weekend.

We've been fortunate to stay at GR two times this year already and have reservations August 21 for three nights again. The fish are hard to see but I think they might be mangrove snapper. They are a burgundy to darker brownish color when they are that size and are common inshore this time of year.
Looks like a good time was had by all!
