We had our first camping trip with another family. We went with my sis in-law and bro in-law and their 2 girls; it was their 1st camping trip. We all had a really good time.

We went to Ichetucknee Springs. This is a beautiful river many people come to relax and float down. We all decided the night before we would all start at the beginning of the river and let the girls get out at the half way point and the men would go all the way down. If you decide to do this, you must be there between 7 -730am. The park only allows 750 tubers to start at the beginning. See pic of the long line of cars. We all made it to the 1st exit and decided to get out there. The men were going to go down, but after we saw the crowd entering at the halfway point we decided to exit. We still had a great time going down.

Went back to cg for lunch and rested. We all went back to go swimming in one of the springs. That was fun.

See the tent in picture that is where the men slept. We could have all stayed in the camper, but we just wanted to stay in the tent in the middle of July in Florida. Smile. I liked it; I have not used the tent much since we purchased the pup. The wife is spoiled. lol

We stayed at the CG I camped at almost 10yrs ago. It was the 1st time camping in Florida since I moved here from Colorado Springs. Now that I have camped at different places in Fl, I would have to say the site we had was good only because we had large site with no neighbors, see map site 14. The facilities needed a lot of work. See pic of how I had to keep the chord attached so the power would not keep going out. There was a men and women’s bathroom. I know the men had a toilet and urinal for the entire place. The 2 showers were located at the back of the place. They worked, but I have seen much better. We will be looking for the state park I was just told about the next time we go, I think it is called Olena State Park and is 15 minutes away.

We played games, sat by the fire listening to music and roasting twinkies and marsh mellows. It was good family time and a great trip all around.

check the pics out

O'leno SP is a very rustic CCC park with a lot of wildlife. As with all parks in the woods you have the potential for bad bugs and ticks. O'leno is a beautiful place on the Santa Fe River

We did find 2 ticks before they setlled in.  The bugs were not bad. However, we used a box fan while we are hanging outside and some bug candles. These items seemed to work because the girls were not complaining.  :)

Grasshopper, great pics!  Looks like everyone had a great time.

The Tires are going Salt River next weekend, shoould be fun.  We will be taking the baby tires (grandchildren) to Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park Thanksgiving Weekend.  Hopefully Billy and Melissa will be able to go, we won't know for awhile.

Maybe we will camp together again before long.

P.S. Lesa is a Girl Scout Leader and loves it!!

Flatire,

We met some folks that are going that same weekend to the Spirit of the Suwannee and said they bring their golf carts and everyone has a blast. He is retired with WWGay and has a golf cart with lift kit and he said lots of people bring and decorate them.

I do love Girl Scouts. Taylor has learned over the years to canoe, sail a small sailboat, kayak, water safety, lots of great songs, leadership skills, how to work with young children (some difficult) LOL, start a fire without a fire starter :), horseback ride and not to mention lots of crafts. They also have friends for life. I would recommend it to any young gal. A troop succeeds with good and positive parent participation.

Our troop of four 16 yo still sells Girl Scout Cookies beginning in January, 2009. We donate time and money to help younger troops to succeed and we worked hard over the last 3 years to go on a cruise for a week in 2009. They wanted to do something they've never done before. We've done plenty of camping in tents, cabins and of course our fiver.

Did someone say Girl Scouts. Sorry I can ramble all day. I just love those little kid-dos. They've grown from 5 yo to 16 yo young ladies in no time. If Mandy has a sweet little girl I'll be pressuring her in a few years. :)  Our troop is always looking forward different community service hour opportunities.

Ok, I'm done..... Grasshopper we really loved your pictures. Looks like ya'll had a great time. We look forward to meeting you and your family down the road sometime.

Lesa

I have camp at this park twice in the past. Power has always been a problem. 1st time we keep tripping the breaker. But when you have over 250 people in your group, That is not surprising. And the lack of bathrooms! lets just say I'm glad my camper has one.
Looks like yall had a great time on the river. That water is so pretty and cold. Nice in this summer heat.

Oleno is a really nice state park. We stayed there last month, and was impressed with the campground, trails and river. The river was too low to allow swimming, but the fishing was pretty good. You will enjoy it there.
