You are correct this was at one time a class A only resort the state took it over and has been keeping it up to the standards of the previous owners.  They do not allow tents and until just recently the did not allow popups.  It has been rated as one of the best state parks in the country several times.

Do not forget your bikes for this one.

Greg

Hey if they don't allow tents why is it when I go to the Park's page they have the tent icon and it says, "

My mistake about the heated pool.  They do not allow tents due to the sprinkler system used to maintain the grounds.

Mandy,,I checked with the park and at this time they do not allow tents. The Ranger I spoke with stated they are tring to set up an area for tent camping in the future. Due to the lay out of the park with all the electrical & water being under ground they can not allow the stakeing on tents.

Gotcha!  Pounding a metal stake into an electrical line would make for one light show.

Attached is a copy of an E-Mail I recieved from Tallahassee in reguards to tents,,,I called back and spoke to a REAL RANGER,,,NOT a Volunteer and she confirmed the e-mail stating they just started allowing tents late last year,,she also apologized for the confusion and would talk with the volunteer. I explained it was not a real problem ..just a miss communication,,didn't want to get any one in trouble

Regards,

The camping at this park is full facility camping good for tents or RVs.  Thank you for your interest.

They still say not tents on reserveamrica.com also go figure.  This all sounds about right for the state.

Top Sail Hill State Park,  originally called the Emerald Coast RV resort was purchased in 1998 by the State Of Florida.  It is named for a sand dune and the park protects the "Florida Dune Rat" (my phrase) a small mouse that occupies the dune area.  While it is not my cup of tea, it has won every award known for State Parks and campgrounds in general.  The campground is located about 1/2 mile off the beach.  Just about everyone that camps loves this place (not me).  The state continues to pour money into this park to keep it pristine.  I would like to see the money spread around to the other state parks.  We were there last Christmas.

I believe that those of you that do camp there will come away with mixed judgment, but the park is nice.  Just not what I expect in a State Park.  The park has rules just like other parks and there won't be any resident campers other than the host.  If you go, take the time to drive to NAS Pensacola to see the Naval Air Museum and Home to the Blue Angels.  http://www.navalaviationmuseum.org/

Thanks for the info Bailiff.  I'm looking forward to trying this place out.  If it isn't our cup of tea/coffee than I know there's a whole heck of bunch more places we can try out in the future.

I can't wait...I have never heard anyone other then Baliff now thats been there say that they didn't like it (then again I have not been running around taking a survey either)..but then everyone does have different tastes thats why they make chocolate, strawberry and vanillia....... I like all different things and usually as long as it is neat and clean I'm good...if it has more ammenities all the better.  I usually like private owned campgrounds as long as they are not mostly all live ins..or nasty dirty...one thing that is usually better are the activites....but the prices are usually higher too.

Shoot I have been in KOA's that have people that live in them

Good and bad in all I say..........

The wife and I had an opportunity to drive thru Topsail this past weekend.  What an awesome place to camp.  Definitely one of the nicest I've seen.  Here a pic of the beach.

Thanks for the pic wildcat1.  We have not been out there in about 18 months and are looking forward to relaxing on that beach next week.

I think we are going to try and spend a week or so there in the spring, maybe late February time frame.  We've got some relatives we camp with that want to come down and hang out on the beach.  This looks like a great spot all though it is a little pricey at almost $40 a night.  The Grand Canyon was cheaper.
