I know it's early, but I haven't seen anything on the calendar....

Thinking about the Florida Caverns in Marianna, FL
http://www.floridastateparks.org/floridacaverns/

Has anyone been here before?, if so can you tell us a little about the place.

Thanks,
Richard

I have not been to the campground but did tour the caverns on a school field trip. The caverns were pretty neat and bigger than I expected given that they are in FL. The only way to see the caverns is by guided tour and I think they have two one is longer than the other.

We have wanted to go there for some time I am not sure why we haven't.

Right now they have plenty of sites available, but I think they will fill up as we get closer to the holiday. If you guys want to go, we're in. I will talk to Kim and we may try to go over on Thursday and make it a 4 day weekend

That weekend is the number two daughters B-Day weekend so she gets to pick the campground. She told me that she had to think about it. I will let you know what she decides tomorrow.

Florida Caverns are very nice would rate them a little difficult for someone with mobility problems.
Camp ground looked nice have not stayed there.

Unfortunately we have a prior committment that weekend.  But somebody mentioned caverns in March, that could be possible for us.

We always spend Memorial day, the 4th, and Labor Day at Camp Blanding. it's a standing date that can't be broken without deep ramifications (seriously!).

We were there June of 08 and they were doing some work on the camp ground but was still not bad unless you did like us and arrived there the first day it had rained in months and did about three inch`s that night with no power most of it.But can`t blame the state for that. The bath house was just redone. We liked it there. The camp sights are real shady and nice.We were on sight 8 that was a mud hole the first part of the week but I think we picked the lowest spot there. Closest to the potty is not all ways better. They had a big pile of gravel there so as I said they were working on updating the camp ground.
There is a lot of hiking trails and woods. We also liked to ride bicycles there. We would and may go back.If still there there is a restaurant called Jim`s on the main street in Marianna that is good and reasonable priced if still there.

There is a county park called Blue Springs not far from there that is real nice to spend the day at.They have a diving board over the springs and some boats you can rent. There is a old mill dam at the end of it so is a nice size lake.

Hope this helps I have some pictures some where if you want E mail me.

We were there in July 2007 and toured the caves. It is guided and I only hit my head twice. There is also a waterfall there, but only if it has rained, if it was like back then the falls were dry. We did not stay at the Caverns campground but at a private campground. There is not alot to do in the town., there is a river/stream that you can float, there is a COLD water park called Blue Springs with diving, swimming, and you can float around on one of thier blow ups. Overall it was a good area to relax.

I guess we need to decide soon. That's a busy weekend everywhere. The caverns sound good to me.

This will be perfect. The web page says that the campground will be closed until 4-30-10 for improvements. That means it will be brand new when we get there. I'm making my ressies today.
