I am not sure what the water temp will there in Dec. but Chris and I had a great time snorkeling there.  We went down in April.  We took our boat down and spent quite a few hours out on the reef.  We have been teaching the girls to snorkel so that we can make a return visit.

Serenity, we've never camped there but we did enjoy the park's ride out to the reef in a catamaran.  Can't remember how much they charged us though.  If you are going in Nov./Dec. the water gets pretty rough not to mention the temperature cooling down.  If you intend on going out in the water for snorkeling bring a wetsuit.

Thanks for the help everyone. Hopefully the weather will be great. I read that it is usually around 72 degrees in December.

This is a great park. We have camped there many times. They have nice boardwalks and they also have on-site boat rentals. We love to go  about 6 miles out into the ocean to do some awesome snorkeling/diving. You can also follow out the dive boats if you don't like to be alone that far out or not so good at navigating!  I don't know how the dive boat company's feel about that- but we really didn't get to close to them. Also the offer dive bout tours that you can jump on. They do have several options an JP park. They also rent snorkeling gear. The boat ramps are also very nice. The water will start to chill out around that time- but we went in January several times and once your in the water you get use to it. I am from the Great Lakes so maybe i get used to it easier.LOL.

Probably one of my favorite campgrounds!

The park has a great snorkel trip out of it but I did not like the Campground or the people who ran it. I much prefer Long Key SP or Curry Hammock SP

We'll be staying at Curry Hammock for 3 days then on up to John Pennekamp. I have been wondering what both parks' bath houses are like? I know that they don't have sewer hookups so I was wondering if I need to get a portable grey water tank just in case the bath houses are not up to standards. How were their bath houses?

Curry Hammock is relatively new and first class(was there 2 years ago). Pennekamp was rather neglected when I went there but that was 5 years now. The reviews I read on it lately do not make me feel it is any better
