Cindy and I are planning a mini vacation on July 4th-8th and would like to go to a state park in Florida or southern Georgia.
I need to know which one do you folks believe is the best one to go to? If you could go to on July 4th weekend, which one would you choose and why?
Thanks,
Steve

I normally don't like to camp on holidays but Hanna would be my choice for th 4th due to being able to watch the fireworks down at Jax beach from the beach at Hanna.

I love Hanna, but want to try different parks. We are staying there for New Years so I would like to go somewhere else. Being a "noob" I want to try every park with in the first year. I
I'm drive Cindy crazy about this park and that park, and think she really don't care, she just wants to get away.
Are most parks busy on holiday's? I just happen to have three holidays off next year

Steve the state parks will be very busy on the holidays in fact for some of the state parks you may already be to late to make reservations. For example our favorite beach campground is Gamble Roders state recreation area just south of Flagler Beach. In order to get our favourite site we have to reserve it 11 months in advance and even then we have to be lucky.

Steve as stated all state park and public campgrounds will be very busy but that never stops me from going. Check out Salt Springs Rec area in the Ocala National Forest, one of my favorites and a perennial 4th of July spot for me. I have some pics in my link below.

Nice pictures. Had about made up my mind to head down there, but like you said, there were no spaces available fo that weekend. Salt Springs will be one to add to my list of places to go.

| Steve, you have misunderstood how that reservation system works. You can't reserve more than 6 months out so it is simply not available yet. January you will be able to make that reservation.

stevencindyj Remember that Salt Springs is a federal park. State parks in FL allow for reservations up to 11 months in advance.

I was looking for Salt Springs under the State Parks and could not find it anywhere. Then it hit me that is was a Federal Park. Thanks for the info .
What is the difference in a state park and federal park? I understand one is ran by the state and one by theUS government. Other that that is there a difference?

Salt Springs is one of the few Federal run areas that has full hook-ups. If you have been to Osceola National Forest near Olustee, the camp sites at Ocean Pond are electric only or primitive. The Salt Springs campground was once a private facility, not a resort like Top Sail Hill but a park used by hunters and fisherman. The lack of business and the reclamation of Federal Lands brought it back into the Ocala National Forest Wildlife management area.
Salt Springs remains one of my favorite places to go in Florida. I believe you can start at this link through Reserve America. http://www.recreation.gov/camping/Salt_Springs_Recreation_Area_Fl/r/campgroundDetails.do?agency=NRSO&parkId=73853
The Gypsy has some photos on his photo page here: http://community.webshots.com/user/flagypsy57
and on this info page http://www.tfn.net/springs/Salt.htm

fla-gypsy you have definitively sold us into going to Salt Springs! I just saw the pics of the campground. If you think they have spaces available for a 40ft bus were in!
I would like to visit that place before the 4th of July. Lets see if anybody else is interested in going?
