Does anyone have any helpful hints in finding a camping location near Talladega for the races?  We've never been in that area and are considering trying to make that one of our trips this year....  Sorry about the spelling error in the title.

You may want to try Trackcamping.com as well. I have read that Talladega has a large track CG next to it but it can get sort of wild sometime. Most trackside camping is strictly boondocking unless you shell out big $$ for a hook up site if even available. Talladega is still on my must see list. I will be headed to Daytona for 50th running in 2 weeks. Link below

We are looking at a few workamper type jobs too,so we can go to all the races....My husband wants to do the whole race circuit thingy
We were suppose to do the 50th at Daytona this year but our "move" put a damper on that as well
(also the 2800.00 price tag for infield camping)didn't help either.

The elec and water sites still available for spring are off track... We found a site about 1/2 mile down the road for $250 for the week.  We'll see how it all goes.

I'm not sure how far it is from the race track but in 2006 we stayed at Cheaha State Park in the Talledega National Forest. It maybe a place you can check into.

I can tell you, they have 2 campgrounds here...Lakeside and Mountain top. We stayed in the Mountain Top campground and it was a nice park. They offer not only 2 campgrounds, but chalets, rustic cabins, a lodge, and a motel in the park.

The only problem is getting to the campground. The paved road was in great shape but it has a 9% -10% grade for a few miles. I didn't have a problem climbing to the top and there were several rigs larger than mine up there, but if you are at you limits on your weight, I wouldn't try it. However, I am really cautious when it comes to pushing my truck.
