There was a nice article in the Times Union today about Stephen Foster SP and Okefenokee Wildlife Refuge.  The Ranger from Stephen Foster said the green has returned and so have the tourist.  This weekend, was a sellout in the campgrounds, the tours, and canoe rentals.  He continued to say wildlife could be seen in the park and on the tours due to the fires burning away underbrush.  The ranger did mention that the bugs had not returned as of yet...

****VERY IMPORTANT ABOUT THIS PARK****
As mentioned in a previous reply they do lock the gate at night. The only problem to this is it's either 7pm or 8pm depends on if it's daylight savings time. We went here in November 2007 and at that time it was 7pm. My wife gets off work at 5pm so by the time she got home and we left which was 6pm. I had to run 80+ to get there by 7pm. When I pulled through the gate I had 3 minutes to spare.

Bring your camera! There is a lot of wildlife here. We have been here 4 times and seen wildlife each time. Keep your coolers under lock and key or the raccoons will help themselves. The 1st time we went there the ranger showed us a picture of 2 raccoons stealing a 48qt. cooler because they couldn't get it open. It was the neatest thing to see!!!

The park is located 18 miles north of Fargo, Ga. on CR 177. 1 way in and 1 way out!

Greg, are you up for some fishing on this trip?  Owen and I were doing yard work and counting all the wonderful worms we saw.

Looks like you can purchase a one-day GA fishing license for $3.50.  You can puchase it online
