We've been talking about checking this place out. There was a review posted on rv.net a couple of days ago that said the water level was up and the gators were out. Bugs should not be too bad in April either. Come out and join us!!
Here's the link to the SP and for reserving...

Were in I have always wanted to check out the swamp. According to a poster at rv.net there are no stores nearby so don't forget anything. It looks like it will be a nice drive up there as well.

That is all part of the swamp experience Clyde. A little music friendly people and big flys in case you get bored.

We were there last Easter just as the fires started. Good campground but the water was low and they had suspended all tours. We saw a lot of wildlife right in the campground, deer, raccoons, opossums, armadillos and Woodpeckers as big as small chickens. I haven't see Woody looking Woodpeckers since I was a kid. Be sure to go into Fargo and see the new Museum they built on the banks of the Suwannee Creek, uh ditch, uh River. I do think the water is up a little.
You can buy snacks, ice and such in the campground but if you need real groceries, it's a long way to a store..

| It is a great CG "in" the swamp. The roadway out to it is about 10 miles long and straight as an arrow. They lock the gates at night and nothing goes in or out. If you have never been here it is a great spot to visit in the cooler moths. It would be unbearable in the summer unless you are of really hardy stock.

We were there just before New Years and plan to go back. It's very remote as others have said but I like it. Bring everything you could possibly need and if you go from Jax and have built in Navigation one of the routes will take you down about 8 miles of dirt road.

chuckc what is the best route over to the park. Since I live in Callahan I was planning to cut across FL 2 which turns in to GA 94 and then 177 into the park.

Greg, you are correct.
Chuckc; Exit off I-10 at SR121 or 228 exit 336 or 335 in Macclenny, drive north cross the state line to Ga 185. Left on 185 to Ga 2/94 turn left(west) to 177, turn right. Shortest way o dirt but the way the state line runs through there, you enter back into Florida for a little while then back to Ga.

| Which road is dirt? I was thinking of picking up FL 2 off of FL 121 north of Baldwin.

| Bailiff has the directions correct for you, no worry about any dirt road if you follow his directions. It's not a bad ride at all really and extremely light traffic when we went.

| I don't want to go all the way south to 10 if I don't have to. My mother lives in Maclenney so next time I go over to visit I think I will take 2/94 over to St George and then south to Maclenney just to check out the road.

Greg,
Your fastest way would be to go down Mickler Street/CR 108 to CR 121 down to 2 then west. I haven't been on CR 108 in years so I don't know what shape it is in.

108 is a great road I drive it everyday taking one of the girls to school. 121 is not bad in fact they resurfaced much of it last year. I have never been on that stretch of 2/94 though.

Goes right into St George. A good little town with a knock out Shack By the Track Eatery.
54.6 easy miles from "Beautiful Downtown Callahan"
