awesome park.  Get there early so you can get water front.  The sites are large, or I should say they are far apart from each other.  We went there this past verterns day and had a blast.  Vetern's day is a good time to go because they have an RC fly in show.  pretty neat.

Is this the same train line that does the Thomas the Train bit from PBS? I remember seeing something on the GA SP website about come and see Thomas the train. I thought that that would be fun for young kids.

Thomas the Tank engine does visit the SAM rail line.  Its in October I believe.  We just missed them for our Nov trip last year.

We did make a trip to Calera (???) AL last spring to catch Thomas.  Kids were 5,3,2 at the time.  They had a blast.

If you plan a Thomas trip, make sure you order rail road tickets early!!!!!!!

Sam Short line is an operational freight railroad used daily to move freight between the east coast and Alabama.  Sam is in contract with the State of Georgia to operate the tour train on Friday, Saturday and some Sundays.  Sam indicates on their calendar "A Day With Thomas" on October-17-18-19 and October 24-25-26 but I don't see an itinerary.  As far as I know, Sam only operates modern diesel locomotives and I have not witnessed or read about a steam locomotive.

The Great Smokey Mountain Railroad out of Dillsboro and Bryson City NC operate a steam locomotive on special occasions.  They also advertise "A Day With Thomas" on their website along with "The Little Engine That Could".  this is the railroad used in the first few minutes in the opening to the movie "Fugitive" staring Harrison Ford.  Here is a link to them:  http://www.gsmr.com/

for the day out with thomas they just have a little rail road car that looks like thomas.  The host station then hooks it up to the "front" of the train, followed by their normal passenger cars.  Their locomotovie is then at the "end" of the train and pushes/pulls the train along.   Kids really eat it up.
